Though some are bemoaning the end of the console war now that first-party Microsoft titles appear on other platforms, that doesn’t necessarily mean the end of their hardware ambitions. There’s always been the assurance that new Xbox consoles are coming in the future, and according to rumors, it could pursue a multifaceted approach.
Reports indicate that a portable gaming PC with Xbox “design sensibilities” is in the works for launch later this year. While the company throws its hat into the handheld PC gaming space with a distinct advantage, it’s allegedly working on the successor to the Xbox Series X/S. Nothing is known about the console, save for it also having a handheld and different controller types (though it’s out in 2027).
While pursuing console hardware may seem questionable given Xbox’s declining hardware sales, it could be part of Microsoft’s effort to ensure multiple platforms and capture the widest possible audience.

$ony has console sales, but popularity doesn’t equate to best. I don’t recall the last time I powered up my PayStation, I have no reason to, I’m done with remasters!
When U consider the games that go to steam from ps5
The fact U actually play ps5 games on the go without having a ps5
I think it could smash the portable market
I'll definitely buy 1
Controlling all 3 on the go at Ur finger tips very powerful play made by Microsoft
But how will Sony respond and will they continue to pump games to steam knowing it's increasing their rivals console value
In theory Microsoft never have to make a AAA again.. well just release it on game pass and then being able to tap into steam as well
And how will it compete with steam deck I wander
It will surely have to be either cheaper
Or the spec needs to blow the steam deck out the water
But doing that could hurt this relationship with steam
Such an interesting bald move
That’s terrible. The only point of selling consoles is to bring in revenue from software and services.
Meanwhile, in reality, Xbox brings in $450M ish a month from GamePass revenue.
We already pre-emptively trying to apply the “Xbox Tax” to their next move?
You can literally keep narrating while that same gameplay just plays on the background without that long pause
