Kate Martin a second round pick is the face of an expansion team. With 2 coming next year and Miles most likely dropping in next years deeper draft she has a better chance of becoming a starter and face of a franchise in 2026.

The move is unprecedented for two reasons. The first is her decision to turn down becoming a likely top-2 selection in the upcoming draft. The second is her planned transfer out of Notre Dame after leading the Fighting Irish to a Sweet 16 appearance. Several factors may have played into Miles’ decision. Her status as the most highly coveted transfer target gives her a chance to make bank off potential NIL deals from the highest-bidding school. Another factor is the fact that the WNBA’s existing collective bargaining agreement (CBA) is set to expire following the 2025 season.

Miles is a “good” college player but doesn’t seem like she’d survive as a pro. Hidalgo on the other hand seems like she will be an elite pro if she can put on some size and pass the ball more. She forces a lot of shots. The transfer portal is hurting college sports. Players are no longer 1 and done. They are now 1 and run. It’s good that they stay longer but the lack of loyalty to their teams is what hurt the NBA.

Projected #2 pick doesn't want to go to the pros. If that is not worrying for the wnba leadership i don't know what is.
If it gets any worse i fully expect #1 pick in the future to go for stable accounting job than the wnba. 😂😂

TCU, USC (due to JuJu injury) or Baylor is the best spot for Miles 1 yr left of eligibility- TCU & Baylor are both losing guards due to graduation- good luck to her 😏 Side note- Sa’miyah Smith (LSU) is also in the transfer portal

Maybe JuJu should transfer to Iowa. Take a year to recover, then as a Hawkeye she could truly challenge all of Caitlin's NCAA records on a real apples to apples basis. After 3 years she could join the worst team in the WNBA, assuming there still is a WNBA once the players association makes it's demands next year. Then if all goes well in the 2028 season assuming JuJu gets drafted #1, she could see how far in the playoffs she takes her new team, after setting her 63 + new WNBA records.
Wow, after 28 boring years, the WNBA sure is starting to gain some momentum, eh? Wonder what changed.

Surprise. Yeah it was shocking. Definitely WNBA teams are scrambling with the draft. So does Olivia wanting to get out of Hildago shadow? Is this about NIL? Who knows. What I do know is she seem to peak this year and being 2nd in the draft is really great. I don’t think she will land there in the future. Olivia has had a ACL tear and now an ankle injury. Not sure this was the best decision. Will have to see it play out. 🩷🏀

Most likely she made a decision primarily based on money. Money is a major factor in most people's career and job decisions . Athletes have relatively short careers, most are done by age 40, so they have to make it the most money they can when they can. If thats the reason, kudos to her for thinking ahead..

I am not sure it matters where they are drafted. It isn't like there is a huge pay jump to be 1 or 26... I think the NIL money is the key.
