Great video, Gaz. Different from the creators yelling what's the pointttttt? The point is a generational shift to the most powerful console on the market with an entry price (presumingly) to PC gaming. Gamepass is going to be such a driving factor, there's just a lot of good to come from this move.

PlayStation users aren't going to move over from their established platform where their digital library is, just like Xbox and PC users aren't going to move over to PlayStation. The general public who don't follow gaming news are going to stick with who their current platform, whether they are 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in the race. The Xbox hybrid will be popular with both Xbox and PC users.

I hope this hybrid is true. It's the only thing that makes sense for xbox to release. That solves 3rd party games skipping xbox. I still don't believe xbox would be a major threat to playstation. Playstation could actually benefit from going full 3rd party that way, without being the bad guys to their fanboys.They could reach all the xbox base without any extra work. They could put all the blame on xbox. Anyway, fantastic video as always.

Unfortunately doesnt matter what hardware they come out with or how powerful it is.

Proof is in the pudding. It won't sell well. Why do you think they put the games everywhere in the first place.

Gamepass was their main selling point, its now secondary to game sales.

Xbox has always been a hybrid PC. It began with the original Xbox that started off with the on the shelf PC parts & DirectX support. The Xbox One unified the Xbox OS with the modern Windows 10's gaming subsystem when they launched the Universal Windows Program. The X/S was updated to the modern Windows 11 gaming subsystem. Next gen is but another step.

One point your missing in your argument is government legislation. As much as Microsoft claim they allow rival store fronts are for our benefit. Its more likely that next gen will be digital only. So would fall under anti consumer laws like the EU's Digital Markets Act.

If Microsoft could pull this off, I'd be amazed. Especially if they launch 1 year ahead of PS6. They may as well go down swinging. It's the only hope really.

Honestly you’re holding on to an Xbox hardware pipe dream. The point of Xbox hardware is to either sell at a profit or bring in revenue through the Xbox store.

With Xbox multiplat strategy they’ve already let go of the main selling points of the hardware. If the platform is open (with steam) there is literally no incentive for people to buy off the Xbox or MS store, which means there’s no storefront revenue.

So Xbox would be trying to release profitable hardware which means they are releasing a much more expensive hardware device compared to the completion: ps. Without volume and store front subsidizing the hardware, what is the actual point of the hardware. Make steam more popular?

Microsofts main mistake was giving games to their competitors especially sony. Sony is literally the weakest they ve ever been and this was rhs time to really smack them around. But instead Microsoft has chosen to aid playstation and help them stay afloat through their weakest time at the cost of hurting their own hardware even more. They could have ended this gen on a massive high going into next gen and they instead choose not too. I personally couldn't believe it as it makes no sense to me i lve never seen a company hurt themselfs to help carry their main competitor before.

their console sales dropped because they stopped doing exclusives for the most part. i dont even mind that they stopped doing exclusives because i just moved to PC but its a huge factor as to why alot of us stopped buying xbox's. i simply dont need a console anymore especially when sony is also putting most of their games on PC.

An open platform console will never work: You won't have a single friends list. You won't have a single achievements list. The UI won't be consistent. You can't buy all your games in one store, or wishlist. Your game library is fragmented. Games are not launched from one place. You will have a dozen friends-lists scattered across disparate "PC storefronts". Your achievements will never be in one place. You'll have to scour your device to find out what you've accomplished, and what you own. On the bright side if I lose all that, I may as well pirate all my games again.
