Super Mario Bros. Wonder looks and plays like the true next step for 2D Mario platformers that it aims to be. The Wonder effects change each stage in both surprising and delightful ways, and the Flower Kingdom makes for a vibrant and refreshing change of pace from the Mushroom Kingdom. With apologies to Yoshi’s Island, Wonder feels like a proper 21st-century follow-up to Super Mario World. Reviewed on Nintendo Switch by Ryan McCaffrey.

Random, yes...
Might play this too.
So when I had first played it, I was hit with a HUGE wave of nostalgia, almost like euphoria but it wasn’t, and had the feeling of being a child again. Just how I always feel when I take mushrooms. And the effects of the wonder flower made it seem like i was in a mushroom trip. 😂
So since the first day I had played it. I had only played the first level and quit because of the thought of, “What if I took shrooms and played it.”
So my roommate had trip sat me and my girlfriend and we were all bored. Then, I had the Idea, “Let’s play a game called, mario wonder,” and they had no idea what it was. So I loaded it up on my big screen and handed them both controllers. I had then loaded up a new game and I let them watch the intro and they were mesmerized, and so was I because of being intoxicated. 😂😂
As the game started and we went through, it was almost exactly how I imagined it but it was even more. I consider it to be one of my best trips so far and i’m sure it was the same for some of you who have maybe experienced something similar with the game. I was laughing my ass OFF. It hurt like hell but it felt like I was a literal child again 😂😂. My girlfriend was having as great of a time as me and my roommate was getting tripped out but all the wonder flower effects. That had to be one of the best moments in my life😂.
Overall as Ive played it more even sober, I had an amazing time every single time no fail. This has to be one of Nintendo’s greatest creations of all time. The fact it also compliments instruments too is amazing itself. This is a 10/10 recommendation for anyone. 💯💯💯
+ Game feels fresh: wonder effect, badges and new power ups
+ Character and enemies animation brings new life to the game
+ Visuals
+ N° of stages + Hub World
+ Memorable stages
+ Characters roster
- Most challenges felt short in duration and lazy
- Some ideas or concepts felt unexploited or way too conservative
- Bosses: lack of variety
- Most badges are useless or "one timers". Most of them had no need to use them more than once or twice.
- Way to many wonder seeds given away/bought
- Standies as collectables were pretty lame
- Game is way too easy compared to Super Mario World/Mario Bros 3
- OST isnt that stimulating besides some few stages
- Multiplayer with no friendly fire 🤦♂️
Giving Mario Wonder a 9 its way too generous.
