Even though women have been killing it in country music for decades, country radio stations have purposely underplayed female artists. Sam sent Sasheer Zamata and Amy Hoggart to Nashville to meet with trailblazers Brandi Carlile, Margo Price, Mickey Guyton, Tanya Tucker, and CMT’s Leslie Fram to join them in the fight for equal play.

I stopped listening to country music radio stations in 2003 when they banned The Dixie Chicks. But I still buy music by country music female singers.
Before I watch this I couldn’t stand country music, an exception would be the odd song like “Goodbye Earl” or Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, but hey I’m a child of the 80s.
After this I am so pro country women singers!!! Even watched a bunch of videos on YouTube. This led my 11-year-old autistic nonverbal son to discover he really loves Margo Price and Mickey Guyton!!! For the first time ever I actually purchased country music!!
It’s frustrating that there are SO many awesome female country artists but we still only hear the same 5 bro country songs on the radio over and over again MAYBE separated by one female song every now again. But only if there’s a female DJ on that radio station…

#Samanthabee you’re late night is impressive to say the least. Please do a small bit on females in HAM radio. All comedy inclusive, I think it could really be a subject that influences women to excel in male dominated fields. It’s an important topic that could impact the world should we ever have to rely on communications when the social media outlet becomes dark. Keep doing what you are doing because women are listening!
Also possible if not altogether likely: ambitious women in the biz who are sharp observers have taken Taylor Swift as a template for their own careers("Switch from country to pop music. The money is better, and you get a broader audience"),and subsequently gone where the profits are the most robust
I live in Texas, and when it comes to country music I literally only listen to female artists. In my opinion, their music is just of a higher caliber.
I recognized Sasheer’s voice right away. Then when I saw her I thought, “Oh yeah, SNL!” I didn’t realIze she left. 😢

It is right in the name … "C*NT …". That being said, strong women in country music might be the only remaining hope.
I used to listen to rock stations all the time and I can't anymore because they never play women and it frustrates me

Sometimes this show really feels pandering. I'm not insulted as a man, I'm insulted as a feminist.
What i don't really get is the record labels actually think people don't want to listen to women sing. It's been scientifically proven that men process women's voices through the part of the brain that responds to music. I grew up in southern Missouri, and listened to hours of country on the bus ride to and from school. I always tuned out the men because they all sounded the same, but Shania Twain would come on with one of her songs and i would actually listen to her sing.
Her song's where so different than what all the male singers where doing at the time. i got so tired of all the male singers crying about their truck broke down,my dog died, and something along the lines of my woman left me..probably because you all sounded like a bad imitation of Garth Brooks.
