How We Came to Hate Technology

In the 90s and 2000s, technology was exciting and revolutionary. Cell phones, TVs, computer, cars, game consoles, and more were always introducing sleek new features that were changing the world. However, the past decade or so has seen a shift in how we perceive that nostalgic technology. With advancements in AI and addictive design, people are not so hyped about technological advancements anymore.

This video goes over how revolutionary technology was in the 90s and 2000s, the homogenization of technology, and why we stopped loving tech so much in the 2010s.

Thank you @Chipss for your body’s contribution to science.

Also, extra comment. But if you're missing the old internet. Make your own website. And explore the communities of people who are also doing the same. You come to find that you dont' have to live in the super boring corporate internet
@ArtsyFoxo March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm
Everything as a problem of course...... falls all the way back to greed and capitalism....

UGHHHHHHH BRO I MISS THE EARLY 2000 FUN and ENTHUSIASM OF TECH
@itmekendall March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm
we’d be so much better without technology. check out videos here on youtube of people shopping in the mall or walmart/ target, getting gas .. going to the movies / amusement park .. in the 1970’s 80’s 90’s early 2000’s. You can FEEL the difference just watching the video

13:47 But aren’t the modern touchscreen keyboards bigger than the old phones with physical keyboards? So why would you having big thumbs be worse now?
@teddnagurski5583 March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm
Oh look, more gen-z-splining about history we already lived though.
@DahRahzor March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm
What do people need nowadays? Actual innovation is impossible if the target/purpose of "new" technology is unclear

Best video and best entertainment available for sure
Those flip phone were so good and hanging up closing the flip 😻

I could text a paragraph incredibly fast using T-9 back in the day.
I honestly miss phone contracts with subsidized phone prices. I’ve switched carriers once in 20+ years and really hate paying monthly for a phone on top of the bill, the carrier’s loyalty only lies with new customers and having to switch all the time just makes no sense. I bought my last phone outright but it was disgustingly expensive

Copy... (checks notes)... Tesla? Not sure anyone's doing that. Thank the lord.
@Melenaaa23 March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm

@ChuckieV79 March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm
I miss how fun phones used to be. There a pkb thing you can add on to certain phones called clicks. I have an old pixel so I can't use it, but it looks sick AF w the razer imo.
@msdenise1234567 March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm
It has become consumerism. No time for real new inventions, no budget for non bland stuff.
@msdenise1234567 March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm
What I also find super annoying is that they forget inventions. Why does my tv remote have T9 WRITTEN on it, but it doesn’t FUNCTION when I try to navigate Netflix??? It’s either the four arrows or now they’ve integrated voice recognition in a frikkin remote. NO, give me T9, it worked for decades.

@hasalaxzo March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm
It's nice to hear background music from The SimCity 4 and The Sims...they tie the motif of the video well into that fabulous era.

What you said about apps is totally true. It's ridiculously annoying when companies these days push people to install their app. We as customers shouldn't have to spend our time and data to download and install their app, about which we can't clearly know what they can do once they are IN OUR PHONES.
Just let me do what I want to do with your company through your website (which I can keep at arm's length if I use proper precautions and can use almost any device for it), thank you very much.
@KiwawaBubbles March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm
I just want flip phones back. I'm 22, and I barely got to use one - I had a smartphone by 5th grade and a flip phone for only 3 years and even then all of my claesmates had Tablets and shit. I'm jealous of everyone who got to grow up with cellphones. Fuck it, I'll just go buy one >:(
@RamondoMC96 March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm
Back then technologies were made for enthusiasts. Now they are made for total NPCs
@TopsyOdell March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm
this video is bang on buddy.
@TopsyOdell March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm
tbh tech was dead before its even started. back in the 2006 days the moto razr is what you needed. gaming consoles and pcs are just bs and smartphones are a gimmick. my fav brand is dell and i dont use my gaming pc. this is how depression happens. being digital is the worst mistake of human kind. you game for a week then your mental health tanks. i miss the days where my so called friends used to meet up with me rather than stupid texting cause it convenient. humanity is soooo doomed.

just don't buy slop and know where to look, lol
@medleysa March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm
SaaS (software as a service) is what killed tech. Used to be you would pay a large sum to own a product or software, so it had to be good. Now you subscribe to software, so it can be released broken and they will just patch it later. This has trickled into hardware as well.
@theplaguepadart3743 March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm
With tech today there is a line from Tron Legacy " we just put a new number on it"

@magoo97 March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm
its because capitalism asks that companies continue to grow their profits no matter what.. they went too far
@leabriana1223 March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm
Ditching for dumbphones is truly the way. It seems hard because you'll lose X app that makes your life better but you can replace it with something else. I'm having fun with tech again. There's a clear flip phone I want. The Boring Phone. It's expensive tho. Hopefully those ebay prices fall and I can snag it. Also, my current flip phone has wifi hotspot so I just held on to my google pixel for those times when I HAVE to use it for some shit app that there is no work around for. Luckily it's just a few instances in my life.

I know im in the minority here as phones keep getting made this way but i seriously hate the tall narrow aspect ratio for screens i miss 16:9 loved how wide and fat my nexus 6 felt i want a phablet for a reason and currently i have the oneplus 9 pro and pixel 6 pro and yes 6.7 inches aint small but they are so damn narrow to my hand once you go nexus 6 theres no going back like if you want a one hand experience get a small phone but i purposely wanna use 2 hands and have jt barely fit in my pocket i swear id use a tablet as a phone if i could lol
@strawberryJen711 March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm
this makes me want to go archeology digging for a nokia phone under the concrete of my city, I'm sure it still works, those things were industructible
@Gravarty March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm
i hate how modern smartphones have become so mandantory. You're forced to use a phone that is still supported by a company so you can keep using all apps for communication, banking whatever. If this wasn't the case and no one would give a damn what phones we're using, i would go back to my iPhone 4S (running iOS 6) in no time.
@consciouscollector March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm
People forget how the business of politics comes into everything, including technology; current right-wing ideologies operates around the world using social media: finding impaired people (old, disabled, depressed) and bombarding them with outrageous lies so they need you as saviour or leader of the "fight" against the "enemy" (which are actually your oligarch friends) and hand you all power. It works, but 100% of the time it screws the country who falls victim and ruins their future. With the supply of non the wiser and desperate people, after a combination of dismantled mental heath and education system; just rinse and repeat after a few years. We're talking billions (at least) of our tax money for grabs, and all you need is the right bunch of selfish nerds running a tech company (which we have a surplus of) to share in the proceeds and the customers/population gets sold out quick.
@adepas-Tech March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm
The nipple joke 😅😅
@OtakuUnitedStudio March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm
The problem with modern technology compared to 20 years ago is that, while 20 years ago technology was supposed to make things easier and more convenient for the common person, tech today is just so that big corporations can make even more money than they already are. Just a means of them cutting down on human workers, inserting transaction fees, and harvesting data to sell to third parties.

Good news, you can get an Android flip phone or slide phone with a full keyboard now. No, they're not easy to find, yes, they're also expensive, but at least the option exists.

black doom rectangle
@gregharn1 March 15, 2025 - 6:53 pm
People need to stop worrying about not following the norm. Use the tech to make your life easier, take back control. I have my family, friends & coworkers trained. I answer work stuff only during work hours. If I don't answer for friends or family, they know I'll get back to them when it's convenient. Social media? Used primarily to share things with family 2 states away or to auto monitor for local events. That's it! As for entertainment, I have a media server with my stuff streamable through Plex (movies, tv, audiobooks, music) as I find it convenient (never have to worry about library rotations).
