Southside Chicago’s Unknown Sandwich

Hailing from the southside of town, the Jim Shoe (sometimes Gym Shoe) sandwich is one of Chicago’s lesser known delicacies. French bread, many meats, crunchy veggies, tzatziki AND mustard… strange, sure, but it’s actually bomb… trust. Today I’ll show you how you can make this local icon at the crib so even if you live out of town, you can sample some windy city good-good in the comfort of your own home. Go Sox. 🤘🏼 Adam

Hmmm. “Pop” Vs. “Soda”. 😂 Some places, call all carbonated soft drinks 🥤 “Coke”, as well. Even though I and most of my family hail from SoCal, many of my cousins called everything “Coke” when we were kids in the 70’s and 80’s.
I had a GF from Chicago who moved to LA that used to call it “Pop”, so that must be regional.

@smithkaren1387 March 9, 2025 - 5:57 pm
I've been to Chicago several times and I've never heard of this sandwich! I will look for it next time I go! Great episode! ❤
@beecat4183 March 9, 2025 - 5:57 pm
Geezus I wish we'd stop putting mayonnaise in everything. This sauce is a war crime against Greece.
@antimuppet March 9, 2025 - 5:57 pm
Yeah, I need to get into roasting entire eyes of round. That looks phenomenal and it has to be cheaper than buying roast beef from the deli counter.
@nikman2 March 9, 2025 - 5:57 pm
its pop!
@fatandbroke March 9, 2025 - 5:57 pm
We had in NWI an item called a beef boat. It was heaven , an Italian beef with sports peppers and a house made red sauce. A lot of the Italian bakerys had them in Gary, Lake Station, and Miller.
@Supertoxie1 March 9, 2025 - 5:57 pm
Most places in or near Chicago use fresh cucumber in the Taziki. It's a must. They use sour cream because it's cheaper than Greek yogurt. Sour cream, graded or pureed cucumber, graded fresh garlic, lemon, salt and fresh pepper. You gotta let it set for at least 24 hours. The garlic flavor will double if not triple. So only use half a clove per 2 cups of sour cream.
@juananaya5572 March 9, 2025 - 5:57 pm
The fact he uses his hands instead of a cutlery device to fold it in tells me he rather have all the salt and condiments on his fingers instead of on the sandwich. Like how much more of a noob do you have to be to make food? At least subway using utensils to crease everything into the bun. You just got lazy.
@308dad8 March 9, 2025 - 5:57 pm
How many times you gonna say Euro? The g in gyro ain’t silent.
@zonacrs March 9, 2025 - 5:57 pm
That looks like a hot mess of heaven right there.
@RWildekrav66 March 9, 2025 - 5:57 pm
