The PlayStation 4 Legacy: Why This Console Was So Important.

by admin

Right now all eyes are on Sony’s next console, PlayStation 5. But as we look back on the eighth generation, and PS4 specifically, we really have to appreciate what this console meant to Sony’s business. PlayStation 4 represents a U-turn at the company, with everyone being laser focused on getting it right. And when you look beyond the initial sales, you see some of Sony’s most dynamic initiatives in PlayStation history, from the mid-cycle PS4 Pro, to PSVR, and even PlayStation Now. It really feels like another PS1, setting a foundation for what will be the future of the brand. So let’s talk that legacy! Or really, you watch this video and I’ll get back to Ghost of Tsushima because I’m still working my way through that. It’s hard to finish games when I make videos like these, you feel me.

I have had my PS4 for 12 years now and I have just bought my PS5 on black Friday 11/22/24. I love my PS4 so much. Will continue to use my PS4. But have to move forward with playing PS5 games and taking full advantage of its stunning visual. PS4 fan 4ever.

@ethiogame007 February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

@stevenrodriguez3891 February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

@diazjulianms February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

It’s 2024 now and what’s crazy is many games still being released in PS4 today, we got a lot of cross-gen games this generation, this was not seen during PS3 and PS4 generation, only this year that many games releases will start support only the next gen but still though some of those games still looks like it can support PS4 😂

@joejoe2658 February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

@TheKAYLEN101 February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

It’s 2024 & I’m still using my PS4 pro to game with my friends who have the 5. No issues & some of the PS5 exclusives are available for the pro

@danleonhart1 February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

From PS3 slim, finally upgraded to a PS5 slim at 2023 Christmas. Never owned a PS4. PS5 backwards compatibility made all PS4 systems obsolete.

@Gamez4eveR February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

5:10 people cheering for shit they already had for decades lmfao

@Paulinho_66 February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

Ps4 was so amazing i really want to have a spider man exclusive ps4 pro but i keep thinking why bother because all ps4 games are playable on ps5 😂

@derrickkorstick8984 February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

Defending Sony not wanting cross platform play? 🤡

@qwertykeyboard5901 February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

I dont have a ps4 but still picked a dualshock 4 up because they make good bluetooth controller for mobile phones.

@sharjeelahmed7913 February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

Seeing all these wonderful exclusives that became a reason for buying a PS4 getting ported on PC… Kinda hurts. I mean, fine but you took away the thing that made PS4 so legendary only to then PC gamers complain about those games because they weren't "ported" correctly and have spec issues etc. Kind of heartbreaking really

It has been a great legacy for out the PlayStation 1 I think to be very honest PlayStation 4 is much obsolete better graphics I ever seen since my whole entire life growing up you done a great job for years making the PlayStation 4 much better and cleaner for all the previous PlayStation systems but it has gotten better for our future. The best way to play graphic video games. And pitched it very perfect as sharper than steel.
I am a big PlayStation fan I've been doing this for a long time it has been a great legacy. I love the video game business.
Making the fans more. Entertained. It makes me happy. As playing video games. For fun and excitement.

PS3 launch felt like the Saturn all over again to me. So much power, but nobody was utilizing it properly. I was in the military when this gen launched. Everyone in the barracks got a 360 on launch. Few people got a PS3, and there just wasn't much out for it at that time that was better than the 360 versions. Move forward say 2yrs…all those 360s had RRd…and Sony was beginning to hit on all cylinders. I finally picked one up when MGS4 came out, the momentum was swaying to Sony at that time. From that point on, it was game on. PS3 had one of the best 2nd ½s I've ever seen. So much momentum on PS4 launch. And I remember getting one and a couple games, and then it was like ok what now for monnnths. I mainly went XBOX for that gen. Not sure exactly why, but I just preferred the feel I guess, and Xbox live. Xbox One X was a big part of it. As well as paying for PS Network. If I'm gonna pay for a service, Live is where it's at. Or was then. They've improved PS Network a lot since then. Not to mention, all the kids had swapped sides from 360 to PS4. The servers were much clearer on XOne at the time lol.

I think 7 years is a good life cycle for consoles… 1 entrance year, 5 main prime years and 1 exit year.

@youssefwalker4172 February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

The end of a console that I haven't bought yet. Wow interesting

@klauscottonswab2322 February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

The Wokist Machine… I don't care past PS3.. 7:11 The Last of Us 2… It isn't just that thy say "Go ahead and do it.." There is a clear (for som still not so clear) agenda going on trying to subvert the Human race into something very unnatural.
They're actively trying to do it through every medium they can.. And it kind of works.. for the younger generations, which is what they are aiming on! One hase to only look back at the last 20 years and see HOW MUCH they've destroyed already and HOW MUCH we've lost instead of gained!

@DarkLordSauronrocks February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

Me who could never log in to playstation 4 for 10 reason:

@alexisaguirrevazquez7900 February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

@vp_wrld February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

Just got a PS5 so I’m here to pay my respects

@TheGunnyBadger03xx February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

Had Sony incorporated full backward compatibility, this wouldn't have only been the PlayStation GOAT, but the console GOAT!

@gghostrrider February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

What game is @ 4:34?

@r-kellyspeesheets908 February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

Lack of ps5 being available made me get a modded ps3 and I think I love that more than I could love ps5 at this current moment. I'm not even thinking about getting a ps5 for 2 Years now or until a couple games come out that I really wanna play. Love the ps3

@SweetKingTanner February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

@Darks_Onry_N_Mean February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

I’ve had every playstation from PS1-PS5 and in 2017 i bought the ps4 which i will say the ps4 was an absolute mind blower for me with how great the graphics were and how fast it is and now i have my ps5 which replaced my ps4 when it stopped working beyond repair

@joelyon1983 February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

Untill there's a slim PS5 I'm good with my ps4

@canowhoopass1949 February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

The PlayStation's have kept my life from falling apart.
It takes a lot of weight off me everyday.

@JayTen February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

What game is at 0:43 ?

@rizkaarifiandi5670 February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

Sony take a gamble with Horizon Zero Dawn, Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding etc
some didnt clicked but many finds home in lots of gamer's heart
IMHO thats their key to success in this generation

oh and Cerny is my new God hahaha

@Jburneyjr February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

Only thing I disagree with is the love for the system. I've had every console from 1 to 4 and between my brother and I have played the original and slim versions of each system. This is the one system where I get epic titles where I don't feel like I need to play multiplayer. With the PS3, with all of its great single player games, uncharted 2, kill zone 2, mass effect 3, mod nation racers, etc I feel like I have to do stuff online just to trophy hunt.

@monke1599 February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

I grew up on Nintendo, and PS4 was my first non Nintendo console ever.

Best choice i've ever made.

@firalia February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

My first console was the Xbox 360, right at the end of its lifecycle. My parents had sheltered me from the internet and expensive game consoles until I practically begged, lmao.
Honestly, though, I personally think the Xbox 360's library was kinda shit, and that's a huge part of why I ditched it for PS4 in the next gen. I like RPGs, and JRPGs in particular, but Xbox 360 didn't really have a ton of them. The market was so overflooded with kinetic shit by that point, and my little sisters loved that, but there seemed to be no middle ground on that console between kids stuff and shooters.

So many of the 7th gen consoles' games felt really strange and experimental to me, and I think the 8th gen is where games as a whole really matured and settled into their own medium. Indie games in particular are great now, whereas I feel they were extremely hit or miss (often miss) previously.
8th gen has definitely been my favourite generation, and I'm excited to see more of what 9th gen has in store for us!

@alphagamer9505 February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

This was my favorite generation easily, I barely remember my ps1 days and a little more my ps2 days, but I never bought a ps3, my parents always said no, So one day I decided fuck it and gathered money for 1 year and bought the ps4

@kyleholloway3470 February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

Even when I get a PS5, I'll still be using my PS4 to play PS4 games. I just prefer to play games on their native hardware. Plus I have a massive backlog of games I need to finish.

@gray-fox6789 February 21, 2025 - 11:14 pm

Wow, what a great presentation buddy.. Keep up thee good work! 👍❤️
