“Unknown 9: Awakening is the kind of routine action-adventure game that probably wouldn’t blow me away even if it was executed well – and the fact that it isn’t just makes the whole thing fall completely flat. Everything from the formulaic story to the shallow and dull combat and stealth are well below the standard set by genre peers, and the consistently disheveled performance and bugs don’t do Awakening any favors. There’s at least some fun to be had in its interesting reality-bending powers, especially the mind-controlling abilities that let you briefly play as your foes and sabotage the enemy in clever ways, but these bright spots run their course quickly, leaving us with a wholly underwhelming adventure.”

I didn’t know this game existed. I really thought at the beginning, “ ok so how much did they pay ign to give them a good review?” After skipping to the end since the video about it was itself a slog. My question is, “how much did they pay ign for not completely roasting this game? 5 is way too generous.” I’m not usually super critical but the fighting literally looks better in a unity indie game for 10 dollars. There really isn’t an excuse…

This studio is known in the Montreal area to have some of the most incompetent management in the city. Basically a dopey executive from Cirque du Soleil decided to burn his money on a videogame company without knowing how the industry works at all (that's why they focused on lore and transmedia potential before anything else). Honestly it's surprising they shipped a game at all even if it took 7+ years.
