On my desk today I have a friends Original Xbox that hasn’t been powered on in over 10 years. And we are going to pimp it out! First, we remove the clock capacitor, then install a mod chip, large hard drive, custom dashboard, an awesome HDMI adapter then get the system online with Insignia – the Xbox Live Replacement. The Original Xbox is still an awesome system in 2024 once you pimp it out with the latest enhancements. Please Enjoy

Does anybody know if there is any kinda projects in the works to make entirely new disc drives? Mine is failing and I have no skills (yet) to repair it on my own. At this point I'm about to give up and just turn to emulation entirely. At least all my retro games will look cool on the shelf.

does the x-out adapter solve the 480p resolution only issue with PAL xboxs?
I’ve got a 2023 Samsung tv that doesn’t support 480p but the pal console only supports pal 60 even with the hyperkin hdmi adapter.

Thanks for this video. I was about to pickup an Xbox since it seems to be the only console i've neglected to buy even though it was the one I probably played the most out of anything

My old modded xbox sounds like a jet engine about to blow up for the first 5 mins after turning it on and has to be turned on by an auxiliary switch or else the dash won't boot. But it still holds up to every use! Love that thing.

I haven't booted up my Crystal in quite some time. I've got also one of the black ones, both have Duo X2 chip and black also has busted dvd-drive which doesn't stay shut. Other than that, both were still working last time I checked.. Might have to look for some refreshing new OS' to replace Evo which I've had since 2004 when Crystal was released in Europe.

I am about to be employed again! and I was wanting to pick up an XBox again. It has been my favorite console behind the Dreamcast. I bought my original box "way back when" about a year after it originally released. I wish I never had to get rid of it. Lots of mistakes going homeless. I never got around to getting a new one since, but that is going to change. I soft modded it within the first month I had it purely for curiosity. I remember there was a hacked MS dashboard that acted like EvoX. Call me weird, but I just couldn't get into the aesthetics of the various dash replacements. I can't find it now. I had softmodded mine, mainly so I can easily swap in the stock dashboard if I wanted to play online. I had loaded it with other emulators and music and movies. Basically the center to my couch entertainment.

You forgot to upgrade the 80 wire IDE cable. It helps a lot with the SATA to IDE adapter compatibility if you are getting intermittent HDD errors. (At least that was the case on my Xbox)
