I stumbled into the Civilization series late into the modern era with Civ 6 on Switch. I was laid up in bed on New Year’s Eve and spent ushering in 2019 playing as Australia going for a science victory. I was hooked, and despite not knowing how to play, and more often than not losing out to the AI, I persevered to learn all the intricacies of the game, mastering Australia and its economic and production powerhouse. Civilization 7 enters a new era yet again, taking all those strategies and builds you spent thousands of hours perfecting, and throws it out the window. What’s it like? Establish your settlement, have just one more turn, and prepare to be diplomatic as we review Civilization 7 for Nintendo Switch.

Will be interesting to see how performance may improve with this eventually running on the Switch 2.
I can't wait to play it after work. Even though I knew the Switch version might have issues I still couldn't resist preordering it. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it regardless… I'm sure it'll be only better and better with some patches. Greetings! 🙌
Bonjour jai une switch et jaurai aimé savoir votre ressenti sur le jeu cest quoi les compromis a faire ?
The independent state might as well be barbarians, my first play through and got surrounded by 4 unit and got ripped. Having 2 warrior and 1 Archer wasn't even enough
In the late game, does the AI turn time take too long and become frustrating, or is it not an issue for gameplay? I'm trying to decide whether to buy the game.
Ironically, all the disappointing Civ VII news has inspired me to finally give Civ VI a shot. I bought it for $8 years ago and never got past the tutorial. All the changes in VII like Ages mean nothing to me, a complete newcomer to the series; and unlike VII, I know that VI is as polished as it's going to get. Hopefully the latest game will be in a better state a few patches down the line
as long as they someone playing pan flute all night long, I'm in…
Thanks for the great review. I was hoping for better quality because this time the game was created with Nintendo in mind from the beginning. Six is just a port though. My copy is flying and you've made me even more excited for it…
The pc and switch graphics are very différents
I don't think I'd have the patience to get into a game like this. But I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Great review, but sadly I just can't get into these types of games myself 😅
How is … the UI?
Idk what you’re talking about for leader switching, that isn’t in the game, it’s only civ switching
Awesome review. I've been waiting for a Switch review to come out. Honestly quite remarkable that the Switch can even run this game at a playable framerate. Will probably pick this version up on a sale or something, hopefully by then the kinks have been ironed out.
Looks bad but to be expected for the hardware.
thanks for this review. i think it would be best to hold it off until i get my hands on switch2. either way, its just a few months away. some needed fixes will be in by that time.
They released this on Switch?
That's why probably the Ai is so dumb. Becuse Switch processor is weak.
Civilisation 1 was great as it was original, every rehash of the same shit since is just better graphics, 0/10 for originality
So far this has been one of the only reviews relevant to me. Thank you. My PC can't run Civ7, so I didn't plan on looking at the PC version, but that's been the main topic for a lot of reviews.
I'm playing on PC right now and waiting for a Switch 2 version , but this Switch port looks very good.
Thanks for this. Sad to hear the performance has issues – it's one reason I didn't pre-order. I've dabbled in Civ over the years, but it's been awhile since I got fully sucked into it.
Fwiw, another "Civ Lite" type game I really enjoyed and which I recently noticed is on Switch is "The Battle of Polytopia." I'm not sure how that game runs on Switch, but I played it on mobile years ago and got super hooked. I feel like it's more beginner friendly than Civ, but Civ offers more depth/complexity for those dedicated enough to really dive in.
Regardless, here's hoping Civ VII on Switch gets patched soon. Handheld really is a great way to play the game.
Thx as always for the great review! I might w8t a bit and geht it on Switch 2 and patched up a bit.
I'm sad that Civ 7 isn't doing good so far. I was particularly hoping for a good handheld Switch version; it allows me to actually lie down and multitask while playing which is what I've been doing with Civ 6. I guess I'll have to wait a long while before getting that for Civ 7.
