The indie game development scene has been budding over the last decade or so, largely thanks to flexible development tools and accessible distribution platforms like Steam and Epic Games. Thanks to flexible and powerful engines such as the likes of Unreal Engine 5, even smaller indie teams can create compelling experiences that can stand on their own two feet against most AAA releases. In this feature series, we have talked about many such games including but not limited to Black Myth: Wukong, ILL, Road to Vostok, and a few more.
Today, we will be looking at yet another ambitious title in the form of DERELICTS. Originally conceived as a solo development project, DERELICTS punches well above its weight in certain aspects, and as such – it could very well end up being the next smash hit on Steam. DERELICTS takes cues from a wide array of sources and crafts something that is both familiar and fresh at the same time, and so we ask the question – what is exactly DERELICTS?

You guys might want to check out Metaisland. It's a multiplayer Metaverse Gamefi project where you can battle with other survivors! Taking down your enemies with a sniper must be really fun!
bulshit UE5 is not for 10 years ago
Woah, i can already imagine how great Meta Islands will be on your reviews, since it is running on engine 5 as well. Hope you can check it out too!
how is that Ark mod click bait picture??
So it’s subnautica but on land?
You lost me at survival game.
looks like a ps4 game
Yet the trees look like pure shit in the screenshot. 🤣🤣🤣
It looks like Subnautica on land 😂
I can't help but suspect many in the comments have and will continue to miss the key "solo developer" aspect of this game. When you view this video with that in mind, it is astounding. If not, it will just seem generic and underwhelming. Context and perspective is crucial here.
You can dereklicks my balls-Hansel
So the forest/ark survival lookalike. There's too many of these open world games, they've done them to death
I'd love to see a game replicate real predator behavior. When you're attacked by five predators and you kill two of them… the last three aren't going to hang around. They don't want the most challenging meal, they want the easiest and safest. After you slaughter a dozen in the area the rest aren't going to fuck with you anymore. Species that blindly attack nonstop and get slaughtered don't survive.
Eh, looks lame.
Looks really good thanks to UE5. Doesn't feel "astounding" though.
And in all honesty it feels so much like Sons of The Forest… than I rather buy/play SoTF than this.
Looks isn't everything imho and commendable as it may be a 1-man dev team + UE5 makes me seriously worry about optimization. The Forest is such an awesome experience that I trust Endnight will deliver a completely optimized game instead of what a lone dev can do with almost no budget and a very demanding UE5.
And judging by Derelicts' non-existent roadmap I'm pretty sure SoTF is gonna be here first. So…yeah.
I'm gonna trust the game doesn't look like garbage when on the ps5. Youtube video quality is so hit or miss. All the stats are indicating that it's outputting 1440p, but I know that the video is barely standard definition from just looking at it.
One thing i am afraid of with the games that are being made with UE5 is that these games are gonna be massive in terms of storage size. Even much bigger than current gen AAA games.
In the words of me and my friends inside joke "its like ark but better"
Is it just me, or do most of these UE5 games look to be running at 20fps?
Single developer created games deserve their own merits for what they’ve accomplished on their own, but when I think single developer games I think shallow gameplay and short playtime. Maybe this game will change that.
The best indie game ive ever played is plague tale innocence
Ark has kind of ruined survival games for me. If there's not a creative mode, console commands that can be accessed on consoles, or sliders that control absolutely everything about the gaming experience then i'm not really interested. If has any of the above, then i'll probably give it a try.
this does not look 'outstanding'
