Chinese Start-Up DeepSeek Stuns U.S. Tech Giants

by admin

Last week, Silicon Valley was struck by an earthquake.

A Chinese start-up company, DeepSeek, revealed that it had created an advanced artificial intelligence model with limited capital and with no access to the most advanced Nvidia chips.

DeepSeek’s open-source AI model, R1, is more or less on par with advanced models from American tech giants — and was built for a fraction of the cost. It demands far less data centre power to run than its U.S. counterparts.

On Reason2Resist’s weekly livestream, Rami Yahia breaks down this remarkable development.

Trump should weak up from America hegemony and start find way to cooperate with China and other prominent Global South countries instead of threats. The only way he can make America greatest again.

@maggiechan33 February 8, 2025 - 6:42 am

Rami, the US was established through the extermination of the Native Americans and theft of their land, like the settlers in the west bank.
Slavery was exploited to enrich the US.

@maggiechan33 February 8, 2025 - 6:42 am

China has always called it 'artificial general intelligence' – general meaning accessible to ALL.

American exceptionalism = arrogance + ignorance.

Love what this has done. The arrogance of all those huge tech giants was just shaken by China. China creates more mathematicians and engineers than most countries. They want to grow and trade. The US just wants to crush its competitors. That is a sore loser's mentality.

@pausereflect5911 February 8, 2025 - 6:42 am

YOU are RIGHT Rami. The Old Timers/old foggies in the West have REALIZED they CREATED "Real Monsters". That's WHY they (right whingers) are flailing in the wind.

@adairjanney7109 February 8, 2025 - 6:42 am

Yes but just like your Palestine and Syria and Russian analysis you are just basically telling stories, sweet nothings. This isnt real at all, its vapor. Its literally just an AI model they trained via Chat GPT which is not hard to prove, so what exactly have they done? And the robots people talked about I mean boston dynamics was doing that almost 30 years ago and way better than they ever did or will, you just want things to be a certain way, you are NOT an honest broker of news, just an honest broker of your poor opinion

A brief comment on the decline of the West, which has suddenly gone on a much steeper decline
French writer and philosopher Emmanuel Todd has identified the three stages of decline as dislocation and denial and finally collapse and decadence.
If this is true, where are we now?

DeepSeek is not the only thing that Nvidia has to worry about. Huawei has produced a chip called the Ascent 910B that performs as well as Nvidia’s H800, the chips used by DeepSeep, and have announced that they will soon be releasing the 910C, which is expected to match or exceed the performance of Nvidia’s premium chip, the H100, which Nvidia is restricted from selling to China, formerly their largest customer, now their most formidable competitor.
A year ago, a report by a Washington think tank, CSIS, warned the Biden administration that the government’s decision to restrict sales of high tech chips was sending the US industry into “a doom spiral”.

Matthew Cooke a documentary filmmaker is finally listening to me and he wants to fight back the Trump government with you know staying home from work. I’ve been saying it for over 15 months to stop the genocide. No one would be dead if we had locked ourselves in and stop the supply chain can you imagine if all grocery store workers restaurant workers and truck driver stayed home for three days that would put a grinding hall to the economy. The Black people that didn’t help the Palestinian people because they were voting for Kamala Harris and we’re very upset that Kamala lost and started just going to Starbucks and buying a lot of Starbucks to get back at the people that didn’t vote for Kamala! So now they’re boycotting because of the DEI rollbacks and target is now saying they will not be hiring using diversity. Also, we have Latinos telling Latinos telling Latinos telling Latinos to don’t buy anything from anyone to fight back the deportation of the farm workers so everybody has the same mentality the same idea and I hope it juststarts sooner rather than later. This is our greatest power. Hispanics have a lot of power a lot of buying power. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DFjDI7Di7Ci/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==

What a bogus discourse 😅 this is about total assimilation of man into techniques and technologies… Be it Chinese or American or X.. big deal … These media kongs themselves total serfs of technology and techniques 😅😅😅😅

AI demonstrates the theory of Yin-Yang of Taoism which says that there are two interconnected domains in this world, one is physical (yang) and the other is informative(yin). Beings in Yin and Yang can interact and affect each other, they dont have owners, anyone would like to occupy them is against mankind.

@xianqingdu February 8, 2025 - 6:42 am

Nvidia is kaput. China is already producing chips as powerful as Nvidia H100, DeepSeek is already announcing that 83% of the chips they are using to train their AI models now are Huawei Ascend chips.

In a digital democracy, if language models are used to automate the construction of knowledge graphs from unstructured input such as conversations, there need to be benchmarks for accuracy, coherence, and consistency of the constructed databases; and, measures of the latency and speed of output. The models should also be tested after being compiled to optimize the performance for specific hardware platforms such as smartphones.

Why did Kissinger fly to china at the age of 100? All these companies are owned by dark forces including Chinese.

@americanknow8232 February 8, 2025 - 6:42 am

You sounds like "Chian finally pass the US GDP." Chian passed it ten years ago. China files far more AI patents than the US, Japan, and Korea sombined for the last several years. You feel "The US tech dominace is over " within a small well, Mr. Frog. You came out the well and feel "I can not dominate this workd." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

China is reaching AGI soon especially the Mandarin version simply because Mandarin is easier to train the machine to be more human like based on the language tonal modulation.

Companies in China can build a foundational AI model that could create something significant in the AI space like DeepSeek.

DeepSeek venture into the field of artificial intelligence in a breath of fresh air.

The arrival of DeepSeek is significant to Intelligent Systems and Smart Services encompasses the broad range of AI applications from machine learning to natural language processing are designed to operate autonomously and make decisions as a whole.

OpenAI is overvalued as Deepseek offers viable alternative for free.

DeepSeek is pushing the boundaries of AI industry through innovation with such talented young people making a noticeable impact or impression in their field of work.

Liang Wenfeng the founder of DeepSeek is a graduate from Zhejiang University.

DeepSeek spent around $5 million to train its DeepSeek-R1 model, which is a fraction of the cost of training similar models by other companies.

The company’s ability to build a competitive model at a lower cost has raised questions about the effectiveness of US export controls on high-end computer chips.

DeepSeek’s engineers used only about 2,000 specialized computer chips from Nvidia, compared to the 16,000 chips needed by major American companies, to build their chatbot.

DeepSeek’s models are open-source, allowing the global AI community to benefit from their advancements.

DeepSeek is making good without excessive money and not having the most advanced chips.

Trump announced a private sector investment of up to $500 billion to fund infrastructure for artificial intelligence, aiming to outpace rival nations in the business-critical technology.

While famous companies like Google, Microsoft and Meta from Facebook have been putting tens of billions of dollars into their AI operations, DeepSeek R1 is beating Western competition on multiple parameters.

DeepSeek made it transparent and open source with the code on the computer itself.

DeepSeek has made their findings a gift to the world and to the US where most AI research is done.

US government has spent three years playing dirty and bullying other countries to stop selling AI chips to China.

AI engineers are moving frantically to dissect and copy everything from DeepSeek.

DeepSeek’s achievements have sparked discussions about the global AI landscape, with some experts suggesting that 2025 could be the year of reinforcement learning.

@morisg2915 February 8, 2025 - 6:42 am

@hengongchua6250 February 8, 2025 - 6:42 am

The loser U$ keep accusing the Chinese that have copied and stolen technologies from them like the highspeed train technology, 5G, 6th generation jet fighter, TikTok, EV and now DeepSeek.
But do they realize they still have got no those technologies or high speed train, 5G and others mentioned above in their country? It is like accusing a blind man peeping a young lady taking a shower. 😂😂😂😂😂

@da12641 February 8, 2025 - 6:42 am

A gift to humanity, imo. AI should always be open source with international cooperation and projects.

@JD-yz4kr February 8, 2025 - 6:42 am

Actually, the US already stated their AI policy is to "Prevent AI technology from falling into the WRONG hands". The US government has already given reasons as AI technology can disseminate the knowledge to create a bomb, create superior guns and armaments, to create new diseases, etc. Badsically, this knowledge should only be available to people inside the garden, and not to jungle folks out there.
