All of these chips are incredibly powerful, and with the recent developments to Crossover and Game Porting Toolkit, they might just be amazing gaming machines as well. Strangely there are native Sonic games on Mac, such as Sonic Dream Team, Sonic Racing, and Sonic Mania Plus via Netflix.

i have an intel i9 macbook pro with 32 gigs of ram but i better not run any game on that 😅

it sometimes overheats on the easiest tasks it doesnt have the fans of the m series pros

I really hope we get official ports of Sonic games on Mac. Mac devices have proven to be powerful enough for gaming in recent years. Capcom has done Mac ports of almost all of their modern resident evil games and they play wonderfully. More companies and studios should look into Mac gaming, I feel like SEGA should be the next one to dabble in that space.

Summary: Don't buy a Mac expecting to game much on it. I just have my Steam Deck for gaming and my MacBook Air and Mac mini for everything else.

1:50 I should probably say that the parts of GPTK that Crossover uses is WINE. Crossover is also WINE but they're both modifed for better compatibility with games and stuff.

I see my waiting to upgrade my 2019 macbook pro to a 2026 macbook pro will be worth it... even though I will already have a desktop PC.
But I'mma just have it or ease of portablity. Macs just... work. Their fans also don't make them become jets. Even at max rpm, they don't sound almost like a vacuum cleaner.

you completely missed the fact that sonic p-06 exists. while it is a fan game, it includes only the parts of sonic 06 that people care about.

with the full release of gptk 2, avx/avx2 is now supported, so xenia might be plausible now. i can't test it out because i'm on intel lmao

for shadow the hedgehog I believe the smoke lagging the game is the overall problem
I think there is a config to fix it
my recommendation would be downloading shadow reloaded mod and using the config the dev team recommends

I used Whisky (crossover but free, also uses wine) to play Sonic Adventure 2 on my M4 Mac Mini and it ran perfectly.

I should specify that there's a very different, and frankly BETTER, version of Xenia called "Xenia Canary" which runs the game well on other PCs from start to finish, including consistent performance with mostly stable handling.

I'd recommend looking into that.
