I figured it out watching a clip of someone doing this with their daughter and they did not explain it the 2nd time watching the clip, as was stated the name is important and without that little clue right there it would be much harder to figure out imo.

How is this in any way a scam? Petals around the rose is a logic puzzle that is fairly easy to work out.

I made a dungeon for my d&d world that is 33 rooms of riddles and puzzles culminating in them finding an old lady who will challenge them to "treasures around the dragon" if they get it right and one of them figures it out they get the easy encounter if they don't they get the harder one. Good luck if they try googling the name to figure it out too.

well I figured it out a different way. i forgot about the rose thing. after writing down the numbers and just playing different math with them i figured out that he is adding all the odd dice and then removing the total number of odd dice revealing the total. for example the five dice are 1 2 3 4 5, odd numbers being 1 3 5 totaling 9, then minus the number of odd dice in this case 3. 9-3 equals 6. but to make it even easier skip the 1 dice just add the 3 and 5 dice on any roll and minus the number of 3s and 5s you get. works everytime.

This is SUCH a great party puzzle because a few people get on board very quickly, but most others will stand and wonder what's going on, and then eventually everyone gathers around and wants to be a part of the thing!
I will say, though, that I think the "fishing polar bears" version that Diamond Jim Tyler taught more recently is better because the answer is exactly as easy to spot, but also the dice showing one pip become part of the answer in that version, and also there's two pieces of information in every answer for that version (polar bears total & specifically polar bears that are fishing",) and I just think that makes it just a little bit more complex, or at least it makes it seem more complex, and figuring out the answer seems like it's a bit more rewarding for that version even though it's no harder.
