As a big fan of Tolstoy, I love how this song really captures the beauty of Sonya’s ultimate steadfastness.
That part of War and Peace where Sonya says “I’m not leaving this corridor, I’ll stop her gong myself if I have to.” is so touching and it warms my heart every time I reread it!

just wanted to say i still love coming back to watch these videos from the great comet! this musical was the first and only broadway performance i've seen, and it was so so important to me at the time, and always will be. thank you to brittain and everyone else in this amazing cast for pouring their hearts into such a beautiful and moving performance- though it was a short run, the memory of the great comet shall live on! <3

I relate to this song completely. I cry every time I hear it. Like Sonya, I would do anything for the people I care about, and I would choose their happiness and wellbeing over mine every time (little Hamilton reference.) Thank you so Dave Malloy for writing, and to Brittain Ashford for singing, this song that I resonate with so deeply.
