After years of focusing on the best games for the NES, I decided to change gears and focus on lesser known cartridges that have, for one reason or another, generally escaped the public discussion and general nostalgia. This series highlights many of the relatively unknown, obscure, and unloved titles in the Nintendo Entertainment System’s library. Some of these games are at best mediocre. Many are painfully bad, some of the worst NES games around. Most are hilarious for all the wrong reasons! Occasionally, OCCASIONALLY, a handful of them are actually good, borderline hidden gems.
While you won’t find any of these on the NES Classic, some of these titles have managed to make their way onto the Nintendo Switch, so if you don’t have an original Nintendo console or ROMs escape you ethically or technologically, there are several ways to play them.
Want more? Me too! Until then, lots of other articles where the pictures don’t move and words have to be read can be found on my website: http://top100nesgames.com

HEAR ME OUT
Exploring a fantasy world with a girl who can recruit other characters by collecting artifacts or defeating foes sounds amazing, right? It could've very easily been a Metroid-style game where various allies could use their skills to overcome obstacles or solve puzzles--and yet the RPG mechanics don't dole out any experience points, give you money you'll almost never need, have the absolute WORST battle music I've EVER heard (and I've played over 200 RPGs), nearly every enemy is a damage sponge you can't run from, and serve only to waste your time and resources. I've played worse, but that doesn't excuse this game from not being BETTER.
What's worse is that Kemco developed the Macventure trilogy, so they definitely know what they're doing. Why Ghost Lion couldn't be more like Shadowgate or Uninvited is beyond me.
My biggest complaint about the game had to be how tedious it is to use healing items 1 by 1.. coupled with the fact there are no healing spells. Enjoy your 50 hp per bite of bread.
I'd love to see a video of Magician. I never see any reviews for that game and don't know many people that played it.
Hard
And I never beat it. The leveling system was terrible. Not gaining any XP, and money having little impact on the game, makes battles unrewarding. Your most effective move in battle is to just run away and avoid losing resources...
This is one of those games I just want to love but, even with my NES emulator open and the ROM selected in the open dialog to prove a point, I'm still not about to play it anytime soon. ...That same ROM list contains far better entries so why bother? Oh, look, FF3! *click-click* :D
