I'm surprised you haven't done this one yet. Nice game.

Good video and review of this game! I remember it well! I never seen or knew there was a joystick coupler that came with the game! Nice!

This game looks very impressive, so many colors, music, weapon types, etc. Have you reviewed Video Olympics/Pong Sports yet?

I had this game on a pirate VCS multicart and the colours were dark as s**t! At first I thought my TV got some problems, after I blamed the pirate cart. Nope! Year and years after, thanks to Stella emulator, I've discovered that the game was exactly as it originally was: dark, but playable. Never ever knew that this game was bundled with an exclusive joystick, wow!

I always wondered why this game didn’t play very well. So many questions answered. This is actually a fairly expensive cart. Great review!

I played this version of Spy Hunter in an emulator once, and I like it a lot better then the NES version. I felt like I had a lot more control over my car then I did in the NES version. I do wish that Atari had made a 2-button joystick for games like this, and Stargate. Someone on the Atari Age forums once told me that it’s possible to make your own 2-button joystick, but that’s beyond my skills. There was a foot pedal controller released for the 2600 for games that use 2 buttons, although I don’t know how much it costs.

Congrats on 10 years.

Dark - that is the only word to describe this game. But aside that it is a good game and a quality conversion

The fun is back!

I have been asking for this review for at least five years, and it is finally here. And it did not disappoint. Although I think it should be ranked higher.

Great review and display of the super rare Dual Control Module.

I had no idea this existed I always thought the NES port and the computer ports were all there was

I picked this up a few years ago for $10. This is a fun version of the game, assuming you know to use two controllers. It is much better than the NES version, which I hate playing.

Spy Hunter is a touchstone game from my childhood, and I seek it out on every platform I can get it on. Including the version of Spy Hunter from the Midway Arcade Classics collection for Palm OS by Pocket Express on my Handspring Visor back in 2001 (which also blows the NES version out of the water).

Spy Hunter for the Atari 2600 did exactly what that Atari console was best at, capturing the spirit of the game and bringing it home. Is it arcade perfect? Obviously not. but it captures the core elements in a way that satisfies the urge to play the game, at home, when you can't go to the arcade to play the real thing. Just like the best of the LED or LED games did. Plus, given the limitations of the console vs the arcade cabinet, it is something unique unto itself while capturing the essence of the original. Thus, accomplishing in a few kb of code what Spy Hunter on Xbox/PS2/Gamecube could not with exponentially more power at their disposal.

I have it but I had no idea it needed two joysticks lol. Guess thats what I get for buying it as a loose cart with no manual lol.

I'm not finding that ebay seller/item when I search...all sold out now maybe?
@SomeOrangeCat January 21, 2025 - 2:54 pm
The 2600 was really punching above its weight class.
