Four years. It’s been almost four years since the Xbox Series X/S launched. It almost feels like yesterday when Microsoft confirmed rumors about this magical Project Scarlett and everything it had to offer. Despite the state of the world in 2020, the pair of consoles had a pretty strong launch, especially when stacked against the PS5.
However, things have been very up and down for the Xbox Series X/S since then. Microsoft has expanded on Game Pass and Xbox Game Studios, acquiring Bethesda, and others. Hardware sales have dropped significantly over time, though, and for all the games it’s revealed, Xbox is seemingly wanting more.
What does the console report card look like after all this time, and what’s next for the Xbox Series X/S? Join us as we look back at the console’s life cycle alongside its most defining releases (and mishaps).

.....got xbox one x now and very happy with it
Both consoles are awesome, but I am most surprised with the series S, because I bought it for $250 ... At that price, it blew me away. Playing through most of BG3 on it for the holidays, it's been excellent so far. Solid 1080p/30 FPS. Way better than trying to play it on a steam deck docked to a TV.
Cyberpunk 2077 Orion will be awesome too.
My most favorite future is Xbox is that smart delivery option. If my last gen games have native port I don't have to pay for it.
A PC for $1000 is simply NOT worth it.
PC gaming is cheaper than console gaming, so building an entire gaming PC should be LESS than a console.
I'm going to build a $650 gaming PC that'll compete with the 2TB Galaxy Black Xbox Series X. A high-end gaming PC that's more powerful than a console is NOT even worth it for the money at all.
dislike big time
Feels like MS lost interest 1/2 way through the 360’s life cycle and has been missing ever since.
