I didn't like her presentation. A better way to do it would be to add money to their account every time they do their chores. Teach them responsibility. Don't take away their presents that is weird. Kids love toys. Let them be kids.

i didn't like her attitude towards childhood in general.. kids love toys - it's okay to get them those, it's not ''junk'' - it's memories, it's future nostalgia. It's good to have a savings account too, but toys are not junk either

I think its a great idea. Its not like you NEVER have to give your kids presents, but you don't need to buy them loads of crap they use once & throw away. Ask them want they really want badly, set goals for them to attain it.

My parents used to make me put my present money into savings. So for my birthday/Christmas, I didn't physically get anything. My parents didn't have the money to buy me stuff and the relatives who gave me money wasted it. I once got 5 pounds in an envelope from my mums dad with a card. I put it in the bin without opening it. Then my mum told me to write a thank you note to him. I said, for what?
This woman is just making poor childrens live a further misery. Okay if you get presents of 500 or more you can do stuff. But 10's and 20's are better spent giving a 9 year old something they like. This woman makes me sick. You'll end up with children who've got 200 in savings aged 16. Missing out on years of presents. When at 16, they can earn that 200 in a week.
