http://ASCAP100.com ASCAP hits its 100-year milestone on February 13th, 2014. For an entire century, the leading US performing rights organization has made it possible for American songwriters, composers and music publishers, who create the music the world loves, to thrive alongside the businesses that use their work. The site (http://ASCAP100.com) features an interactive timeline of ASCAP’s rich history and additional interviews with each of the 15 ASCAP members featured in this film.
ASCAP’s commissioned short film “Why We Create Music” celebrates the organization’s 100-year history by providing a behind-the-scenes look into the creative process of a veritable who’s-who of today’s top songwriters and composers. Combining footage from more than 10 separate film shoots around the country with 15 ASCAP members, the film explores the meaning and power of music as expressed by the music creators themselves. In addition, from shoot to shoot an unprecedented collaborative musical composition was built as each participant added their own musical “voice” to the score. A companion song, “More Than The Stars,” which will also have a music video and features lyrics by Ne-Yo, Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood, Dan Wilson and Claudia Brant, will be released soon. A preview of “More Than The Stars” can be heard in the end credits of the “Why We Create Music” film.

This video really hits home. I just wrote, sang and produced a song “Nashville” by myself. Having no one to write with really makes you want to pour your heart out into a song
Like the BGM!
<3 🙂
I could write and produce original HIT songs of all kinds that are viable, current and eclectic. they are being devised through a writing system that I had developed over the years. See soundcloud or spotify dot com under band name: SPINX EMPTY FACES.

I have been a songwriter/artist-composer for ASCAP since 2004. Be aware that no one can fake their way into this elite organization. You have to have a performance background and be approved by a review panel. Being an old school lyricist, I am expanding my horizons so that I can pull my performances out of hiatus. I am searching for a potential publisher for my material.
it is very disappointing that all music has to be represented in this generic commercial way
This is a really awesome video! I though I'd share a small tip for all young audio producers: Music creation has always been an important part of my life and I always wanted to become a musician. I've already produced many songs and I am really close to achieve my dream. After losing countless hours with inadequate programs I finally found the best software for music creation ever created. Want to learn more? click on my username. I have posted a link for this program.
ill work with anyone that shares the love that I do for music
Love it! Thanks for putting this together. #SongwriterEquityAct Let's do it!

Awesome video! Music creation is my life. I've always wanted to become a musician. I have already recorded a variety of songs. I am really close to signing my first contract. After losing my time with inadequate software I finally found the #1 program for beat creation ever created. You can find a link for this beat making program on my channel. check it out.
Fear, Struggle, the things we go through music has always been their to give us a thing to release our problems.
U said it right! …'music nocks down…age barriers, language barriers, race barriers…'
I still remember my 1st royalty check it was like I made up that steep mountain. like I accomplished that goal, and today it is still a great source of pride. Long live ASCAP happy 100th B-Day . And I loved the track…

WONDERFUL | As a composer, Ii feel honoured to be a member of ASCAP!!! Share the Music!
Been a drummer since 8 yrs old. I'm 58. 1973, heard Todd Rundgren's "Something Anything", and I read where he did most of it himself, all instruments, vocals – all. I thought, "One day, I'm going to do that." Of course, then it was just a dream. Went to UNT Jazz school 1975-1977, learned theory, keys. 1982, bought 4-track mixer, mics, guitar, bass & Juno keys – before I knew what to do, even how to mix, b4 even ONE song, I just knew I was going to do this. Then, married, kid, couldn't do road drumming anymore, so I just taught myself HOW . First songs, not so good. Then, slowly? a little better – vocals better. FF>> 2013. Now? I'm with ASCAP, do it all myself, all digital studio and I might not have a #1 hit (yet), but I DO have that dream complete. And, some really good songs. Just sheer determination and making mistakes, BUT – it can be done IF you want it. This hits home – <<rewind to 1973.
Thx, ASCAP
