Mario & Luigi: Brothership reviewed by Logan Plant on Nintendo Switch.
Mario & Luigi: Brothership is a disappointing return for an RPG series I love. Apart from the combat, it fundamentally misunderstands its own past success, and completely fumbles Luigi’s role in puzzle-solving and exploration by making him more of a pain than a partner. The story is simplistic and unoriginal, its attempts at humor fall flat, and the overly chatty writing holds your hand to a ridiculous degree. It’s not a total disaster, as the flashy turn-based battles are some of the best this series has had – but even those somehow manage to wear thin as the repetitive final act crawls across the finish line of this roughly 34-hour campaign, which suffers from surprisingly bad performance issues nearly the entire time. The Switch has been home to many triumphant revivals for Nintendo, but the Mario & Luigi series has sadly missed the boat.

IGN is so wrong… this game is a 4
just say it, nintendo didn’t pay you enough money to give this game a positive rating and you just want the money
I miss number of dislikes being visible on videos. As if the uploaders are gonna care when we can't see them. Just get rid of likes too, it's all pointless now.
Nah you like homosexual things
You would really, really, REALLY think that IGN would hire writers, who has perception of quality and basic human deductive reasoning after alien isolation.
Thanks, IGN for making this Nintendo game do bad sales in japan. 👍👍
Y’all shouldn’t even be bringing up dragon age it’s dialogue helps flesh out the characters I have never played a game where I legit would go back to hub after every mission just to check for dialogue options I love vailguard and it’s a great game
Brother needs a hug
IGN next review- I made a mistake
If he said in the first minute the chatty dialogue he missed the point of every other game and superstar saga by 10. The point of the Mario and Luigi series is to be funny and every characters action are very expressive which this game perfect. The only thing I agree with is that Luigi’s a football field away. I bet that if you gave this game to someone die hard to the series they would like. Anyway can you raise the review to a 7 now
Honestly, I agree with most of this review. I feel like it’s painfully mid, and a 5 seems right.
''Reviews'' like this that are Contradictory, Opinionated, and Comparitive to completely unrelated products have NO authority to influence your Purchasing Decisions.
I Don't even like RPG games, and havn't played a Mario and Luigi Game in 11 years but I Bought A new Switch OLED Just to play Games like this!
What hurts the most, is that IGN have greasily slithered their way onto Page One of Google over the years, and any rating that is below 50% (70% in IGN's average) is usually a Death Scentence for games made by relatively smaller studios like this one.
This is the first New Good Mario RPG game we've had in a DECADE (if you don't count origami king and paper jam)
IF and only IF games like this and SMB Wonder sell well, we might get a new paper mario game (or entirely original RPG IP from nintendo?)
The Sticker Star and Remake Curse has been Broken!
Genuinely cannot fathom how this channel has an audience. Shits run by 7 year olds
Can you do the review of Sonic 3 movie
I admit the beginning was a bit slow. And the dialog isn't as good as the previous games as far as I can see. But still fun. I'd probably give it an 7 or 8 as someone who's lime 20% into the game. I do dislike that the camera shows you the whole map. Would prefer to not know the map and have to explore.
this review is correct nintendo glazers cant accept that nintendo can make a bad game
Hard pass for me.
A easy Mario game??? No way
Just beat the game. This is a pretty spot-on review, aside from “performance issues”.
honestly at this point what is ign, a bunch of stupid people getting memed every other month?
What happened to video game journalism?
stfu that game's a 10/10
Based off the comments, i assume its a good game right? I wanna buy it but 60.- is kinda alot
When you catalog the games, do you at least play them? go to vilguard because it's more of your """style"""
This is a totally legit review. I purposely did not watch it until I played the game. I’m almost 38 hours in (never should have done side quests) and still not done… I thought I was going to be done, but the story just keeps continuing for no reason. They easily could have made this 25 hours…
this review is simply just ragebaiting. the reviewer talks about problems that has been there since the very first m&l game, they claim they're a longtime m&l fan while they're clearly not. apparently it has the best combat (which actually goes to paper jam but whatever) but overall they say it's a 5/10. they say this game misunderstood what makes the others great while they're clearly either lying or they haven't played any m&l game. intentionally bad reviews like this should unironically be illegal, they hurt amazing games, people copy their opinions and they might kill beloved franchises with reviews like this
U cooked so hard w the Luigi bit I thought all the same shit. Have a nice day dude
i actually kinda agree with him
I know which kind of games I would like, and this is one of them judging by the footage.. IGN gave breath of the wild a 10/10 (so did many other reviews) and I was absolutely bored out of my mind with that game.. You gotta listen to your own intuition. If you think you'll like something, you probably will.
Just brought the game anything game journalists rag on is pretty much good compared to stuff they like like concord and starwars outlaw
so when will ign post that they didnt really play the game?
As someone who just beat Brothership over the weekend, I’m actually convinced this guy didn’t even finish the game because he simply couldn’t be bothered. The game is longer than 34 hours even if you don’t get many game overs (although he found the combat challenging). Yes, the game has its flaws especially in the first hour or two. It is not a 5/10 however and it certainly isn’t basic if there is this much to the game. It’s more like an 8
Its mario is missing of this generation
What's the name of this reviewer, I'm going to make sure he doesn't review shit ever again
My son is 6 I think These flaws won’t bother him
Bro forgot to use the IGN logic 😞
IGN you are wrong the Tv is fine! The platforming is fine! The Luigi Logics are fine! Giving a 5/10 is not right! This game is amazing! You are wrong.
love seeing nintendo babies crying over some shitty game
The real good reviews are the ones who don’t watch IGN
The only thing I kind of agree is the humor. Occasionally funny, but mostly a little forced imo. Aside from that, this guy is full of it. This is one of the most enjoyable games I played this year, maybe not the best, but enjoyable overall. 5 out 10 my ass.
Awful review. Get a new day job bud. You suck.
So, dragon age the veilguard gets a 9 out of 10. The biggest middelfinger to fans ever. This game gets a 5 out of 10. A well made game that stays true to the fans.
Buddy complained that Elemental theme areas is too basic. (He lives in a world where ice and fire is rare to find)
I see a lot of people defending the game in the comments and going at IGN's review. In honesty IGN is a wild one with their reviewing and consistency is an issue so I do share that gripe, however I came here to see what the score was having already bought the game and am now about 12 hours in.
The game is frustrating, frankly very boring and does indeed suffer from some horrendous performance issues. I haven't got the slightest interest in carrying on with it. That said, I have no doubt there will be people who love it, enjoy it and want to stick with it. Just don't be surprised if you find this an awful grind and are exceptionally bored.
IGN needs to watch who they let do the reviewing. This guy did an awful job and is pessimistic at best. This game is by far way higher than a 5. Did this guy wake on the wrong side of the bed or something? This game is easily a 7 or 7.5 out of 10, possibly an 8. The fact he gave it a 5 makes me think he only played the intro.
This review and the guy who reviewed this is high
