I was a little late to the PS1 party, my parents very generously and lovingly gave me the console on Christmas Day 1997, I was 16 and I was not expecting it. My mum bought it through a catalogue paying it off every week, I have always been grateful for it. I had Porsche Challenge with it. Not exactly a top tier Playstation game but that along with the demo disc, it got me through a few weeks before I discovered renting games.

I still have the original PlayStation the ps1 video game console & it still plays compact discs still plays them all & that’s model number SCPH-5501 & it says January 1998 that’s manufacturer date & PlayStation 1 has incredible exclusive games like ape escape & parappa the rapper & crash bandicoot & Spyro the dragon & metal gear solid & gran turismo & resident evil & castlevania symphony of night & Tony hawk’s pro skater & Tony hawk’s pro skater 2

I had that model but the North American unit. The hole between the yellow and white outputs was for an RF switch for TVs that didn’t have AV input
