Following up on our analysis of how developers are faring on PC with the transition to Unreal Engine 5, we decided to do the same thing all over again – but this time on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. How are image quality and performance faring on the current-gen consoles? What are the highlights of the UE5 titles released to date – and does Xbox Series S have the horsepower to keep up?

So, with what I see from Stalker 2, the Series S is getting outdated already?
Someone please tell me which game that short clip from 12:19 walking through the alley is from?
RedEngine > UE5
Havok > UE5
Rage 9> UE5
Naughty Dog Engine > UE5
RE Engine > UE5
Fox Engine > UE5
Decima > UE5
Snowdrop > UE5
Dunia > UE5
Frostbite > UE5
etc…
This console gen went from
Damn, these consoles are powerful
Then to
These devs aren't using their full power
And now
These consoles are not powerful enough
Wtf 😂
Thanks Oliver! Great analysis as always…Robocop is outstanding on both the S and X – those guys are working some miracles
This makes me raise the question on whether the series s holds back on the development of current gen games making them not reach their full potential on series x and ps5
Oh boy, in The Talos Principle 2, you only tested the tutorial area. Once you get out of this area, the game become a technical disaster.
Constant stutters, hardcore TSR ghosting, glitches reflection on water. I bought the game on PC, and I stopped after few hours because it was just not possible. I bought it on PS5 and it's even more catastrophic with the forced TSR and the hardcore ghosting.
You should definitely talk much about this game. 😢
People shitting on series s, dont forget that it consume ONLY 75 watt !!!
Remember the Fox Engine used in MGSV? It's a shame Konami didn't keep that going. Hearing that the MGS3 and Silent Hill 2 remakes run on UE5 has me extremely worried about console performance. I have yet to see UE5 run well on consoles.
12:14 Wait so it's less resource intensive to upsample games in UE5 as opposed to running them at a "native" resolution? It seems weird to me how upsampling has become so popular in recent years. It's very cool to be able to make a 576p game look like 720p using upsampling, but I don't understand why games can't just be run at 720p? Is it because hardware isn't powerful enough these days? It seems weird to go from running games without upsampling at say 1440p on high settings, to upsampling from 1080p to 1440p. What caused this shift? Or is it to "democratise" graphics in a way? i.e. allow more people to run games at a higher resolution when their hardware isn't as powerful?
UE5 on console until now = bad performance and bad image quality.
People on trash hardware complaining of a next gen engine. UE5 is for PS6 or for a 4070. You want to taste the future? there is a price.
GREAT INFORMATIVE VIDEO. Hope Developers are Watching
Has FSR2 won any showdown against any other temporal reconstruction, like, ever?
I mean, TSR is a feature that’s been baked into Unreal engine since somewhere mid-UE4 development cycle , who knows if it’s even being worked on by anyone, and you can enable it in any UE4.x game by throwing a line into a config file.
From what I’ve seen of FSR2/3, I’d rather just have 100% compatible, artifact-free bilinear upscaling automatically done by any display running less than native res than deal with the artifacting and shimmering. AMD needs to step their game up.
UE5 has a great feature set for a new generation of games
honestly, i dont care about any Series S content
I actually hate digital foundery they ruined gaming for so many people went from just having fun enjoying games to piexel peping and counting every damn fps its pathetic 😊
Isn't every Unreal Engine iteration a letdown in the first few years and then kinda settles at average+
It's crazy that these consoles are having limitations already. It's sad
I knew these consoles can't handle GL and RT
Lmao go look at Ark Survival Ascended. Game is the most Fuzzy looking game I’ve ever seen. It’s awful
Ue5 lords of fallen best so far
the sad thing is that the games are not a "generational leap" that justify how heavy they are… there are games from 2015 ( arkham knights, the witcher 3 base, etc) that look similar or ever way better than any unreal 5 games and are not demanding even half the hardware they do
I will not buy any UE game that stutters. They've had years to fix this crap
