by admin

The social landscape in the early 1950s was shifting. The end of WWII signaled a time of economic growth, and technology was advancing — TVs were becoming commonplace in homes, opening up a whole new world of entertainment. Music, too, was changing, and the big band sounds of the 1940s were waning, while rock ’n’ roll was taking over.
The 1950s gave us some of the greatest music acts of all time, including Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Buddy Holly, and Chuck Berry. But there was a dark side to the industry, too. From stiffing Black artists on royalties to artists getting involved with underaged girls, this is the messed up truth about the 1950s music industry.

"She had heroin planted on her and arrested." The next sentence, "she struggled with a horrible heroin addiction"

YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND SOMETHING, THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS ON A HALL OF FAME STATUS WHEN IT COMES TO STEALING IDEAS, RIFFS, AND OF COURSE TONS OF CASH❤THE ARTISTS WERE YOUNG AND STUPID (WHEN IT COMES TO BUSINESS) LOOK AT HOW MANY DIFFERENT SMELLY PAWS HAD ACCESS TO THEIR WORK ❤THE LABEL ITSELF, TALENT AGENTS AND OF COURSE , AND THEIR MANAGEMENT FIRM.❤

Why would anybody be dumb enough to get in to show business?

@CaptHiltz November 27, 2024 - 6:00 am

Today is not much better for about 95% of the artists who release music. The three major record companies; Universal, Sony and Warner control most of the top Spotify playlists that artists need to get on in order to blow up. Guess who is on those lists. Yes, it' s their people and not artists from small indie labels or artists that do everything themselves. At .003 cents per stream, it's estimated that the 95% I mentioned make $1,000 or less per year on streams with the bulk making $200 or less per year. The 3 labels I spoke of are of course raking in the money at the expense of everyone else. The technology may have changed but musicians are still getting screwed over.

I find it both hillarious and terrifying trying to imagine what goes on in the mind of a white dude shooting a bus of black performers. The level of hate and ignorance is both comical and chilling, people unde Jim Crow were raised dangerously stupid, but stupid nonetheless.

The disc jockeys were paid to play whatever crap the record company wanted to sell.

@BigHeartMusicOfficial November 27, 2024 - 6:00 am

Companies pay for hits to this day. The entire industry is manufactured to capitalize off of social media trends.

@jaysilverheals4445 November 27, 2024 - 6:00 am

actually the first was the Carter family and Jimmie Rodgers. Jimmy Rodgers was considered a singing black man. Leslie Riddles was the person that taught Maybelle how to play guitar.

@neddyladdy November 27, 2024 - 6:00 am

You would have done better if you had said what Jim Crow laws were.

@RedVynil November 27, 2024 - 6:00 am
