You’re not allowed tackle the head, or even accidentally hit it.

That shirt drag isn’t cool now. Pass back, kick forward.

Just a quick note to all Americans who think NFL is a brutal sport. Rugby players tackle, get up, go tackle again. Rugby players run with the ball, get tackled, pass the ball, get up, and go to receive the ball again. There is no "take down" which is then celebrated for 5-min long and then the game continues. There are no "few yards run" which is then celebrated for 5-min long and then the game continues. Rugby is two halves of 40-min each. With half time included, it can take about 2 hours for the total of the game, with injuries and stoppage time included, and the ball is in play for the full 80. NFL's average game time takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes, with ball in play ONLY about 12-min. Longest NFL, if I'm correct, was just over 7 hours long. Rugby has 15 players per team on the pitch, with 8 possible substitutes replacing players for fatigue or injuries or even tactics. NFL has 48 players to play on that day, per team. Rugby players celebrate after they score. NFL players celebrate after a tackle, or a good pass, or a good run for a few yards. I used to love NFL, but wow, it just got almost the same vibe as the funny WWF or whatever it's called these days.

Hi there from South Africa. So glad you've discovered rugby. Warning, though, rugby is contagious, the more you watch, the more you want to watch!😂
@chriswhite1417 November 21, 2024 - 8:49 pm
And the amazing thing is is that they dont do a tackle, high five each other, have an energy drink and a ten minute rest while there are adverts. They get up and do it again. And again. And again. It's non-stop for 40 + 40 minutes
@KBJ58 November 21, 2024 - 8:49 pm
If the US got into Rugby seriously, with some of the athletes you have, they would be a force to be reckoned with. Look at what the All Blacks do, with a population smaller than some US cities. I played for 22 years, and loved every minute of it. OK, my nose was broken four times, and I had a lot of stitches, but nothing that would prevent me from having a beer with my opponents in the bar after the game. I used to play with quite a lot of Army players, and they said that Rugby was the closest thing to combat most people would ever experience. Wonderful game, and I miss it dreadfully, but it's no game for an old man.
@Smoshy16 November 21, 2024 - 8:49 pm
The vast majority of these tackles and some of the fends would be considered illegal these days and would most likely see the player red carded and sent off. The tackle rule now states "tackles must not be dangerous, and should not involve contact with the opponent's neck or head, a locked elbow, or a shoulder charge. Tackles above the line of the shoulders are also illegal, even if the tackle starts below the line."

Welcome to the rugby family. A family where we don't all support the same team and don't always agree when it comes to our teams, but man, we love this sport. The score works as follows: a try(touch down) is 5point and a conversion after that is 2point=7, a penalty kick (field goal) is 3 points & then a drop goal also = 3point. Hope you react to more games.🇿🇦
@kevinturner3997 November 21, 2024 - 8:49 pm
In my opinion Rugby is the best sport in the world. There is a saying that football (soccer) is a game of 22 men playing for 90 minutes pretending they're injured, Rugby is a game of 30 players playing for 80 minutes pretending they're not injured.

My father used to play for New Zealand's oldest rugby club and is a life member. Apparently running into him was like hitting a tree stump.

Springboks. World champions. Currently top of the international ratings. 3/4 players nominated for world player of the year. 1/4 nominated for emerging player of the year. Playing Wales this weekend. Give it a watch.
@wesrobmat November 21, 2024 - 8:49 pm
I played for 10 years no 5. It’s the best sport in the world. If you’re serious about learning rules there is a Rugby Laws app from world rugby. It’s amazing.
@andrewmoss3681 November 21, 2024 - 8:49 pm
A great reaction to a great game. My 12 year old nephew just started playing. Check out the rules for Rugby union. The levels of respect that are show is quite impressive.
But my recommendation for a compilation video is a bit out of the norm for most sports. Because this individual isn't a player. He's a referee. Check out, 10 minutes of Nigel Owens being Nigel Owens. He is known as the Grand Master of referees. However there is 1 thing I need to tell you, so you'll get ome of his comments better. Nigel Owens is gay. You'll understand when you watch the video.
Have a great day & much love to everyone from us here in the UK

Never ever watch the American Eagles play Rugby.
121 countries play Rugby and see American Football as a game for pussies.

It's the sport that American Football derived from ... 5 points for a " Try ", or " touchdown " ( to score a try, the actually has to be touched down in the " in-goal area " or end zone ). This gives you a chance to go for the extra point ( 2 points in the case of Rugby ), the difference being is that the conversion is attempted, not from directly in front of the posts, as in NFL etc , but on a plane from where the try is scored. So if you score right in the corner, the 2 extra point attempt is taken from the edge of the field. If a team concedes a penalty, then you can attempt a Penalty goal ( 3 pts ), if you are in kicking range .. You can also score by kicking the ball on the half-volley over the posts, also 3 points ... I believe it's still a valid scoring method in the NFL, you can drop kick a field goal/ extra point as Doug Flutie did in 2005 for New England against the Dolphins ...

There are no systems of downs, and all passes from hand have to be backwards or lateral. You can gain ground by kicking the ball Play is continuous until an offense is committed or a player drops the ball forwards at any time. A dropped ball that goes forwards will result in a scrummage involving 8 from each side, the forerunner to your " scrimmage " ... There's obviously more to it than that, but these are the basics, hope this helps ... Just to add, the physical nature of the game breeds immense respect between those who play it at all levels, teams always form a tunnel and applaud each other off after the game and will buy each other drinks & mix happily together in Club Houses post-game. Respect for the Referee and officials is a massive part of the game, you will not last long if you talk to officials as Soccer players do !! ..

I'm Welsh and we're pretty renowned in the rugby world. Well, maybe not at the moment as we're on bad form...but we have to let other nations win sometimes and will be ready for England in the spring.
