What do You people consider defensive holding ? Because the fact is, Impeding, blocking, hitting, knocking down the receiver is LEGAL ! Half you people try to bring up the NFL 5 yard rule which is not a rule in College. I hate both schools and dumb people. But this is not a penalty in football. And unless a player grabbed and held his jersey. Or the ball is in the AIR, this is not a penalty. This should be investigated because everything about it is wrong.

Flirts time seeing what the whole incident was about with that Utah AD. From where I sit, that receiver was being mugged for a good 10 yards if not more. The first 4 yards he is being pulled down. So yeah, there was definitely a penalty there. How often this is called in the college game is another story.

Not holding in the first engagement. The second engagement was beyond 5 yards and pushed the receiver downward was likely a back shoulder to the sideline.

The holding call was weak. Should have been a no call.
Defensive holding, pass interference, and offensive holding are three of the most controversial calls in college football. They truly are hard to define at times. It’s kind of like left up to the discretion of the referees as to where it will or will not be called on any given play.
I do not think that refs want a call to make a difference in the game. In this case, the defensive holding penalty definitely made a difference. An automatic first down instead of a turnover on downs.

Utah has ALWAYS believed that they would win EVERY game in EVERY college sport against BYU. I am 76 years old and was raised in the "shadow" of BYU.

I don't think it was a hold, BUT, the way the WR slipped a little bit and the angle of the ref it would have appeared to him it was holding.

It was either a hold, or the receiver saw something shiny on the ground behind and to the right of him and tried to pick it up mid-route
