Once a staple of video games back in the halcyon days of 1990s gaming, couch co-op – or local multiplayer – has been steadily declining. Perhaps due to the negative effects on performance with numerous players splitting the screen, or maybe the preference for online multi-player, whatever the reason couch co-op is seen as a bonus rather than the norm.
There’s something special in playing alongside your friends, relatives, whoever, so gracefully we are seeing somewhat of a rejuvenation in couch co-op either via the mode being added after release via updates or DLC, or games being designed specifically with teamwork and communication at the heart of its gameplay. This is the second such feature we’ve ran on couch co-op, and some of the best of all time have released in the time since.
