Sonic X Shadows Generations is a celebration of a specific era of Sonic games, for better and worse.

Sonic X Shadow Generations is two games: a remaster of a game from 2011 and a brand-new game for 2024. And yet, both games feel oddly similar, building most of their levels on the backbone of Sonic games from the 2000s. In that respect, they carry forward some of the shortcomings of those Sonic games, like unnecessary extra mechanics and a bland story, but at the same time, they do well what those games excelled at: delivering fun platforming gauntlets accompanied by memorable music and an exhilarating sense of speed.

it’s a remaster of a game from 2011 with a few hours of additional content. That’s it. The score makes sense to me. GameStop is not off the mark.

I am not impressed by this game either, but some of your criticisms were a bit out there. I wouldn't score it as low as this.

I thought the general consensus was nobody likes the new modern sonic. So going back to the amazing game that generations was is what we wanted.

I never got the appeal of Shadow. As a Sonic fan since '91, Sonic' s counterpart is Knuckles with Sonic 3 & Knuckles, I'd rather play as him. Shadow is a "cooler" version of Sonic, which to me was more pseudo cool since Sonic already is the cool counterpart to Mario and that's enough. But that's just my opinion, I know many fans love Shadow, to each their own.

If you are someone who wants to play this game, play it. Don’t let these amateur reviewers change your mind. If you disliked this game, please provide more evidence than just “it feels outdated.”

This review is genuinely embarrassing, and I can’t believe that game journalists have stooped so low to where IGN is a more trustable source than this.

"Sonic generations is dated because it’s not how sonic games play now". But how many great Sonic games has there been since Generations?
If anything, it should be a good thing, because Sonic games has struggled since Generations.
Generations has been the gold standard since release.
