Movies to Video Games Review — Jurassic Park (NES & Game Boy)

Movies To Video Games Reviews
Review #33

Jurassic Park for the NES and Game Boy, is fully reviewed and analyzed as compared to the actual movie itself.

Feel free to comment. More movies to video games reviews coming soon.. suggestions and feedback welcome and encouraged.

To save on space and time in the video, the score tallies and descriptions of how I got to the scores are listed here instead.

They are on a 1-10 scale with 10 being the best score possible:

Story Accuracy to the Movie 6.0 out of 10
(Follows the book more at many points but does tie things into the movie well enough to be a legit movie adaptation. The use of the TREX and plot points will keep it all with the feel of things at least but it could also have been much better when it came to keeping true to the movie plot.)

Music Soundtrack Accuracy to the Movies 2.0
(Uses a song from an ol C64 game named Comic Bakery but for the most part the music is catchy just doesn’t seem to fit into the situations is all. The absence of John Williams theme is noticeable.)

Game Difficulty 7.0
(Like any game it has its moments where it can be difficult and annoying. Some of the boss battles are bad due to play control issues as are some of the stages that can be long and tedious but for the most part the game isn’t too difficult and should be beatable by even the most casual of players. Its just very repetitive with same enemies to fight and searching for eggs constantly to move on to next areas. )

Overall Fun 7.0
(Blasting dinosaurs to bits with a huge gun is as much fun as it sounds in this game. The game has enough variety to make up for the repetitive parts as well as being short enough that it won’t get old fast. It is a true romp through the park as you try and get free of the island over run by man eating dinosaurs. It’s just basic old school fun.)

Final Score: 6.50
GOOD

I am asking this cause I am unsure. Does Jaws Unleashed count as a movie based game? It has a similar plot as The Original film(with the exception of playing as the shark) and has locations from the movie(and some others). If it counts I request it! If it doesn't that is ok too.

I find the Game Boy version much harder than the NES version. The Game Boy version seems too zoomed in and you can't see dinosaurs coming at you until they're almost at point blank range, leaving you with very little time to react and shoot at them. Plus, the T-Rex follows you around in the Game Boy version while it repeats a certain pattern in the NES version. I've learned how to avoid being eaten by the T-Rex in the NES version by staying at a certain area on the left side of the screen where the T-Rex never gets to.

In either version, I try my best NOT to kill the Raptors unless I absolutely have to in order to get further along in the game, such as in the Raptor pens in some levels and a few other areas in other levels. I don't kill them for points...only when I have to kill them, as I mentioned.

What we have here is another lame, dime-a-dozen action title on the NES that cashed in on uninformed gamers by exploiting its profitable movie license.

The idea of walking around int he end among the game credits is pretty cool and creative.

@Movies2GamesReviews You should review all games for the movie(s) or atleast the most you can and review games that are different from each other. It will lengthen your reviews and make them more enjoyable. Just a request.

You should do a review for the SNES verison of this. I've never played this one but it certainly looks easier than the one on the SNES.

Good review. I remember watching my cousin play this game when I was, like, 4 or 5. My favorite review you made was the Tomorrow Never Dies review.

@creep426 TCgamerboy2002 is right.. Lego games aren't exact movie versions of games. They are more parodies or alternate takes of the movie they are representing. I would put Lego version of movie games to be in the same category as Goonies II for the NES and Robocop Vs Terminator game. Involved movie based themes and characters but isn't based on a particular film itself. So I won't be doing Lego games as much fun as they are. The actual movie based games though of Harry will be done though.

@TCgamerboy2002 The way I do it is , if a game is almost identical on different ports both (or all)get into the same review. If they are totally different or mostly different on different ports they get their own review per port. Since the NES and GB versions are basically the same game, they get the same review. No need to do the same review twice just for different ports of the same exact game. Sometimes Ill include footage from other ports sometimes just one port will cover all that are same.
