For any of the local server to streamer setups that you discussed, other than, possibly, the Nucleus, if Roon 2.0, do you need an Internet connection, or will a local LAN connection do? Thx for the great video.
@kennethadams2575 October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
Wow, so 3 separate electronic devices and we haven't even got to the dac and amp? Or to get it down to 2 devices (excluding dac and amp), one needs to be very expensive and require a monthly subscription?
@billthestinker October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
Sonos application to bla bla Just use 💿 quality is much better
@benliu0528 October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
Way too complicated. The music industry needs to pull their heads out of their ass and come up with a plug and play simple solution so people other than IT professionals can enjoy music as simple as put a record on a Turntable.
@mr.wibble October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
Great vid, thanks. What Streamer would you recommend to pair with a Denafrips Aries 2 12th? Thanks in advance!
@pablobanados4282 October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
Hi! as a roon user, is there ANY sound quality advantage of using a dedicated streamer (any price), against a good computer (ie: mac mini or a intel nuc) running roon core and connected to a nice dac? At least in terms of UI, I think the second solution is way more powerful, flexible, scalable and easy to use, and it is almost free compared to some streamers priced as if they were made of pure gold.

Love your reviews. I’m using Chord Mojo as DAC connected to MacBook with Curious USB cable to enjoy Qobuz on HiFi system. Will there be any improvement in sound quality using Chord Poly or a Streamer (e.g Volumio Prima) replacing MacBook? Thanks!!
@davidbrittain3212 October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
Its all still a mystery to me, even after watching this vid?!! I'll have to watch it again a few times I thin...
@mdolphin369 October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
I currently have the Sonos port connected to my Denon AVR. That system is about one year old. I use the Tidal hi-fi streaming service. i’ve often wondered if I can improve the sound that I’m currently getting over my home system with this current set up.

I love how technology has made our lives so much easier
@Alamo-cz5xc October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
Raspberry pie sounds terrible. I'm more of a pecan pie guy.
@sdrtcacgnrjrc October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
As someone who doesn't have a network, and doesn't want a computer running all the time, I was especially interested in the combined server-streamer idea. There doesn't seem to be many options there though.
The Innuos not available here/now. The Elac Discovery DS-S101-G seems great, but sound quality reputed to be not-so-good. There's pi options, but I'm wary of the tech aspect (not sure I'd be up to it & not sure I want that either).
@martijn5372 October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
So in the end you are just building a second pc?? Wish I could have a 4tb phone. Connect from phone to dac. Then all is solved.
@mikegallegos7 October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
Excellent. Thank you.
@wernergolombick1553 October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
Sorry, mentioning Apple again ...
Use streamer or server, last connection when using Apple runs over AirPlay and ...... :-(
@sandcat-maurice October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
Thanks for your great videos!
Wrt Sonos app send music to the Sonos device: actually Sonos device pulls music from any of the indexed shares (computer, NAS). The app is only a remote (not a server) and does not need to be on the same device as where your music is stored. You can even remove the app all together and the music keeps playing.

Hi, I’m just getting into streaming and found your video very interesting and well delivered.

Great technology for stream music, and hope can read mp3 ripped from usb flash drive in TeraByte, like raspberry right? Cool
@MarkPharaoh October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
This was way too confusing. Stick to a single example and ignore all the potential “what if/about” folks. This isn’t back to basics, this is jumping all over the place to try to cover all the different edge cases and uses.
@thomaslee6957 October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
Hi John. Great videos on streaming. My only grouch is the monthly fee for services. I know there are not many about. Though it would be great if you did a hifi tuner review. Free music for all once you you have bought your equipment.
@arkdark5554 October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
Very informative. Thanks.
@iscmiscm October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
I like the idea of a separate server (in my case a RAID NAS) to use as a repository for all my media which becomes my 'master' copy. In my case I only use my PC's storage for manipulation (and sometimes for a quick backup) with the main content including my work/ excel files also kept on the NAS server.
It then becomes very easy to backup.

Having streamers for both Audio and Video plus Photos becomes simple, as I always know where my content is.

Apart from my backup copies, I also have a duplicate NAS which I can treat as yet another backup or take it with me when I work abroad.
@yorkemar October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
I just connect a spare pc to my system..does the job.
@sumitagg1 October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
What’s on top of your airies mini?
@dn2888 October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
How about using a smart TV with Chromecast built-in and toslink out as a streamer? Local files can be accessed over LAN as well.
@1983Block October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
Mom, I wanna go to John's bunker he's got so many toys
@duojet1027 October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
What’s your opinion on the Aurelic Altair G1 versus the NAD 50.2 Musicmaster? Like both but wonder your professional opinion
@bulldogbrower6732 October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
You introduce streaming to viewers and you have done a bang up job of it. Didn’t you fail to mention that you have to pay for all of these different services. How much are they per month. Which ones of these services allow you to download the music into your hard drive or copy to your phone as a purchase ?
@77936fief October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
i know it's not specific to music only, but more as such a music server. but i've set up a Plex media server a couple of years ago. i still find the functionality and interface to be one of the best looking around.
@chrisxie2234 October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
@John Darko Hi John, I'm interested in the raspberry pi case you're using, could you give me the link so that I can buy it?
@LusoCMD October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
Thanks for trying John, but there was too much stuff presented in such a short video. Has the saying goes "one picture is worth a 1000 words", a few visual aids AKA infographics, would've done all this explanation much easier to understand.
@RasheedKhan-he6xx October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
Perhaps you could really clarify what a streamer is if you explained it as a STREAM receivER. See what I did there? I reverse-engineered your Klipschitt idea.
@alvaroolmos3 October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
What do you think about play fi dts like klipsch gate
@rodrigopfs October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
Really dumb question here: why not using a server/streamer/dac all in one device?
@victorceban8175 October 27, 2024 - 4:57 am
As a home server, I have a WiFi router with an USB port which supports external hard drives. It isn't an expensive router and my music is always on the net, as the router is always turned on. I love it, comparing to the days when I was was streaming from my PC and had to turn it on and off for each music session .
