the part about the touareg fighting muslims and their name meaning rebel is not true. the tuareg are the descendents of the southern sanhadja berbers which embraced sunni islam and founded the almoravid empire and while idk what the word touareg means i do speak arabic and it has no relation to the word rebel

Bit late but the group that put me on to this is Etran de L’Aïr. A bit lesser known from what I grasp but very dope

I just recently discovered Etran De L'Aïr and the channel Sahel Sounds and have been obsessed with this rabbit hole I've fallen down in.

Great video. You should have mentioned the traditional music that influenced tichumaren, such as takamba music and the music of the tehardent/ngoni (a traditional instrument of the region)

No, it's definitely not. Settle down! It's different for sure, but the best guitar music in the world continues to be in the west. I don't see that changing anytime soon.

@hairyporter6544 October 25, 2024 - 3:49 am

Far better than heavy metal

@guy_incognito October 25, 2024 - 3:49 am

Thank you very much for this — very informative. But let me throw a spanner into the works: isn't this cultural appropriation? Aren't these guys stealing from western culture? 🙂;-)

Very valid and excellent summary, maybe more slowly spoken would be very helpful for non English origin speakers! Thanks!
