Great video. I’ve got a Linn Majik DSM, the Linn unit can connect to Spotify, Tidal etc for lossless. But I trying to find a way to get Apple Music as it’s best for coverage for my genre. I know can Airplay but it is messy with phone calls and walking out room and can’t volume control etc
@Oculus729 October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
I would like the Bluesound products much better if their form factor was more like a conventional hifi component - meaning a vertical display. The way it is you have to have table top (desktop) location to use the controls on the unit. Not everyone has that available.
@cjtathome October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Hi All , I use Spotify and play blue rays. I have the latest Apple TV fed into an old Yamaha RX-V673 (no Spotify connect but airplay ) and monitor audio bronze Bx2 5.1 setup. Apple TV connect via HS HDMI cable. Question ~ am I likely to get any benefit from using a dedicated DAC ? Any other sensible yet low cost upgrades I could make ?
@duns7800 October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
How can I use my iPhone 12 pro as a streamer hooking it up directly to my Mcintosh C49 preamp with built in dac using Tidal, Roon, Spotify ect....listening to master, flac lossless??🤔 Is this possible? Just one cable from the iPhone to the dac. Love your videos, awesome work and thank you.👍🏁🏁

I have a NAD 325bee, castle howard S3 speakers and schiit bitfrost dac. I play most of my music using my laptop. I'm considering the node as an option for streaming. Question: should I keep using my dac which I like, or connect the node directly to my amp?
@Andyusa11 October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
But if you use your node to stream using airplay it is not hires audio right ? With apple music
@timothysykes1135 October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Excellent video for beginners. Thank you

I am looking out for solution to stream/connect my audio (mainly Spotify) from my Iphone 13 to my DAC Shiit Modi 3 which in turn is connected to my Denon integrated amplifier and Warfdale Speakers. I purchased a type C female to micro usb male adapter which did not help. Can you assist me? Thanks
@andydavies27 October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
I know this is an old video, but just an update - you can now send audio and video via Airplay from an iPhone/iPad (at the listening position) to a MacBook/Mac mini, you just need to turn on the option in the settings of the Mac to turn on Airplay receiver mode.
@princediesel1 October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Can the node play Apple Music 24/192 ?
@JohnnyJolt October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
I like how slow and simply you explain things. Go for a walk with you and one will learn from you.

Hey there. I’m trying to get into Sonos but struggle against my prior experience with wired.
I have been using Apple Music now that it does lossless (or so it seems). It is convenient for when I’m not at home as well as playing on my Era 300s. However I’m curious if there is any competitor that allows for Apple Music app (not airplay besides Sonos.
And do correct me: I understand that playing from the Apple Music server via the app is a better sound than via airplay, right?
Cheers all!
@twiggyzappa October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Thank you so much Sir for the advice! I just bought a node a few days ago and am eagerly awaiting for it to come in!
@billthestinker October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
How many ways to connect becomes absurd. Just use cd 💿 it sounds best
@user-rw7xd7qy3j October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Do any of all of these streamers work with Pandora (even though the bit rate is terrible with Pandora)
@Gerardoooooooo October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Excuse my ignorance, but are Spotify and HI FI even remotely compatible in the same sentence?
@dwdrum11 October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
For Apple Music, ditch the raspberry computer, get a used apple AirPort Express 2, £30 later you have an airplay 2 receiver with 3.5mm/toslink output.
@JohnTobison October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Learning a lot from your content, John, so thank you! So, if I’m starting from scratch, how can I evaluate the quality of the DAC in the streamer to determine if I should also buy an external DAC to connect it to? I see in another video that you recommend adding an external DAC to the Wiim Mini, even though it also has one internal. How can I tell when an external is needed without having to buy and try many products and product combinations?
@hassannasir90 October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Great advise for spotify connect until I get my Wiim PRO
@tomasporta October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Great video! I have a (weird?) question: can I use a toslink to USB adapter (saw one on Amazon for 20 bucks) to go from a streamer with only toslink out to my Ifi Zen DAC (only USB in)? Thanks in advanced. Cheers!
@LT4_Toronto October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
This video is a year old but I have an interesting question that can hopefully be answered.

I recently purchased the ELAC Navi B51 powered bookshelfs. These will be used as my desktop speaker setup. I am pairing them with a Cambridge audio dacmagic 100 via Kimber analog RCA from elacs to dacmagic then connecting via usb from dacmagic to my computer. Not sure if this dac is good enough....
My question is if I want to also have the option for network streaming should I add in a blue sound node in the mix. Meaning connect a toslink cable from bluesound to the dacmagic or get rid of the dacmagic and use just bluesound for network streaming and connect the bluesound to my PC via toslink...
@lvervoortify October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
I’m an audiophile and switched from spotify to apple music because only apple music offers lossless. But I found now that tracks in apple music often skip when combining lossless and airplay. It’s very ennoying and it seems to be an apple glitch that is known for a long time already. I’m considering to switch back to spotify. Any advice much appreciated.
@dugbert9 October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Why are you going from the Node to the DAC? I thought the node was also a DAC? Can you go to an integrated Amp from the Node? I'm so confused.
@NathanKolk October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
asked this on another video, but im curious when you airplay to a node or powernode is it playing 24/192? I thought if you use airplay it cannot do hires?
@FuzzFace October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Great content. What I find interesting is that there’s a gap in the market. Why is there not a smallish device that integrates with apple and Spotify streaming, works off of WiFi and includes a decent DAC? Probably not enough demand.
@olindamedia October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
For myself and I'm sure for others, the easiest way to set this up is using my TV as the digital receiver. Most modern TV's are able to receive Airplay and Spotify Connect or similar for other apps like Youtube.

I'm finding that since hooking up to nice speakers like this I'm really enjoying watching live recordings, concerts and music videos on youtube too.
@JLX5 October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Hello, I really appreciate your videos but there is so much stuff out there that is very overwhelming and hard to choose the right thing principally with not many chances to a/b the right gear... I'm looking to integrate Tidal streaming and possibly high-res files from a disk/SD into music system. I have a Viva Audio Numerico cd/dac player connected to a Jadis Da50 signature amp and Harbeth HL5plus. The Dac in the Viva is supposed to be quite good and I don't know if I should go for a streamer to use with the Viva dac OR to get a separate stand alone device. Would you be kind to give me a few suggestions? Thank you!!
@rayhower October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
I rarely comment on YouTube, and rarely like or I don't believe i ever have to be honest a video. but i have liked on this video because i respect what has saying about the community and agree. just far to much arrogance in the audio community. was talking with an online friend last night as he set up his systems. which has incredible speakers but is powered by an all in one, and to my dismay he did not understand the concept of separates but in his arrogance he didn't allow me the opportunity to teach him the concepts of feeds and running separate equipment to manage different things. but brags that he uses solid silver audio quest power cord. their is so much hypocrisy and arrogance in the community that we hold back the understanding of what hifi audio even really is to the general public, and even within the community by being sniding and argent towards each other. like family and friends. its imposable for me to pin someone down long enough to explain why my system sounds 10x better than anything they've heard because the market is flooded with so much misinformation. My system is amazing i love it but i know I don't know everything and i also know i haven't done everything to a "true audiophile grade" standard, but that standard is to snooty i feel people should be able to decide to source how ever they wish or even build their own equipment, the speaker building community since social media has gotten really large. im part of one i really enjoy. ive seen people with cnc machines and high end equipment replicated at penny's to the 1$ remakes of speaker designs that run 6 figures. its nice to see their are alternatives and we need more information so people can hear what good systems should really sound like or could because saying should is really just saying we're the defining standard but the listener is, how do they want to hear it. ultimatly beauty is in the eye of the beholder and in this case ear.
@CC58 October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
You would think the DAC in an AVR receiver is just as good. Why not just a laptop with HDMI into a TV with eARC HDMI into AVR receiver driving speakers? I don't see the need for a DAC.
@sandysandaver5412 October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Great information John, however, I cannot find any information about setting up my Xiaomi Mi Box S to the internet using a dummy HDMI plug and my iPhone and streaming music via my DAC using an optical cable between headphone socket on Mi Box?
@donaldbryan2586 October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Please how do I use or connect while using my Apple TV which is how I listen to Apple Music and watching the interface. I would like to learn the best quality way by adding a DAC.
Absolutely love your approach to audio and your channel. Thanks!
@prterhorst6204 October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Your videos are really helpful John, I have watched so many of them in the last couple of days. The one solution I have not found addressed (including Google searches) is this: From my couch, can I use an iPhone to stream, via Airplay, the CD-quality ALAC files that I have stored on a 1Tb SSD to my Airplay-enabled network receiver? Right now the only way I have found to do this is through my MBP (with the SSD connected), which is a pain when I am moving about the house. Thanks as always and keep those videos coming.
@martinmalette8538 October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Would TIDAL work with this one too?
@thirumalaisamyrajashekar4244 October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Hi John, I appreciate your effort which is very useful for beginners like me. Thanks a lot. I am in INDIA and can I get a simple suggestion from you that which is suitable for us between mi and Node
@MunnaBhai-nl2gt October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
I have a bare bones CambridgeAudio amp running a pair of MonitorAudio bookshelf speakers - I usually plug my old iPhone into the amp via Aux In to play Spotify. I have recently got Tidal, so is there a better way to play the higher res music (cost effectively off course)? Do I need a DAC and a streamer /MiBox?
@adrianhearne3359 October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Hi John. Thanks so much for putting these videos together for people, like myself, who are new to audio streaming. After many many months of deliberation, I've finally taken the leap and recently bought a Cambridge CXN V2 streamer. I've owned a Musical Fidelity M6si amp and B&W CM9 S2 floor standers for a while - so I'm running everything through those. I though that I'd researched this all pretty thoroughly, but what I wasn't fully aware of was the integration of my Apple music subscription with the CXN V2. It works, but I'm wondering whether I should either swap out the CXN V2 for something that's more conducive to Apple Music(?) ....or possibly change my subscription over to Spotifi or Tidal, etc. I'd prefer gapless and as high-res as possible, if possible - of course!
I appreciate that things might have moved on a bit since you made this video but any advice would be very much appreciated.
So, we know that the hardware is good (so is my speed - 100MB+ down / 20MB up) but the dimensions of my house don't always seem to allow me to carry my iPhone (7) around with me without losing connection - so change service?
Don't want to push things but the CM9's are in a large(ish) lounge with 3m high ceilings and Parquet flooring - so pretty 'hard'. Can you recommend some 'warmer' speakers also...?
Thanks again for your work.
@Ogwrad October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
So the blue sound node can connect to a tv using HDMI earc and then to a dac, and the dac is connected to amps and the amps to speakers.

My issue is I don’t want to use toslink for audio anymore. My streamer/dac only has toslink, it’s an auralic vega g2. And it has amazing sound quality for streaming.

I’m just wondering I’d I can use the blue sound node and still take advantage of my auralic?!
@erictarzan October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Thanks for the video John. However, whats the point having a high end DAC while your audio streaming service like Spotify only offers low quality audio file when connecting via airplay 2 or bluetooth
@joshjeffery3464 October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
John - helpful and entertaining video as always. A question that has probably already been answered somewhere so feel free to point me to the existing answer if it already has.

If not then can you help me with this question. Does a music file coming through an IPhone (in my case an 11) which is then sent by AirPlay to a streamer degrade the file/music? In other words when the file passes through the phone is some of the quality lost when using Apple Music as I do? Thanks
@SSS-cv7dc October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Good beginner video. I have to add that I have tried connecting the Node using the analog Audio Out to my Yamaha AS-2200 pure analog Amp and it did not sound that great. It sounded very muffled. I think the DAC inside Node is not a high quality one. I got a much higher quality sound streaming from my Marantz Receiver 6014 than the Node. I am thinking to connect the Node to a high end DAC and then connect it to my Amp. Any suggestion for a high end DAC?
@amurray7808 October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Ok. Ya got me!!! So, the elephant that you led into the room by it’s trunk is…Which is the better dac? The one in the Node or the one in the Cambridge?🇨🇦
@wils2l October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Great vid as always! Question for the group. Which output connection would be best for a denafrips aries ii dac? Toslink, usb……
@federicovalmassoni3827 October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Unfortunately Airplay doesn't support HiRes Audio because limited to 44.1kz so, ok for 24 bit I guess but not for regular HiRes Audio sample rates....
@jonathanholmes3429 October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Great video John...as I'm new to music streaming but enjoy vinyl, is there another video where you describe how to use the Powernode with other components? Thanks again.
@Cl-hm3tz October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Hi, for beginners and intermediaries ... Which DAC would you recommend at this moment. Thanks
@djradman6794 October 23, 2024 - 9:23 pm
Hi John is airplay the only way to stream Apple Music using the bluesound Node2i? Does apple airplay 2 do full hi res?
