how Apple Airtag ACTUALLY works

So if the thieves steal your bag with you passport, credit card and other documents, then by tapping their phone to the air tag they can now get your phone number too. Brilliant.. 😂

So I was charging a power bank for a friend of mine because he lost his power and he had a tracker from a different company on that power bank. I use Tile and after I had been home for a little bit, it was the Tile app that actually notified me that the tracker from another company was in my vicinity.

But how did the airtag get the location? Was it somehow pinging off of your phones bluetooth or cellular connection?

So practically, the AirTag will alert the thief about the tracking, give them options to even make sounds to indicate the exact location of the device, and instructions on how to disable it. Wow, that's crazy, that's the biggest stupid shit I ever heard

So not an effective way to locate a stolen vehicle because it alerts the car thief.

in the thief scenario you have the thief's home address, and can call the authorities, however however getting a warrant before you ditch the stolen goods is another matter.
Honestly it would be best if the air-tag gave you its location but only while on the move, It would need a 5-10 minute delay to ensure it doesn't ping just before they walked in the door.
Lastly it would STILL log the tags location, however that info would be kept safe on apple's server until the authorities contact them, and go retrieve your items. (you should not personally engage a thief anyways) Without knowledge that the air-tag is tracking, the thief would be far less likely to ditch the stolen goods. and the tag would be far more likely to be in the same location as them. and a stalker would never get your exact location, even if you had an android phone. Naturally the precise location feature would still work if you were within 100m of it.

I believe tile only works with Bluetooth. So the distance is only about as far as a WiFi signal. So you would have to be stocked from the kitchen to the bathroom. AirTag is unlimited distance. As long as there are iPhones near it.
