It's too bad they didn't interview Rahsaan Bahati, his story and career was influential in even shaping the Williams bros. He is such an inspirational rider and pioneer in the sport for men of color. Not taking anything away from Justin and Corey, they are taking the torch and moving forward

@dwaynerandolph3565 October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Nice footage & an inspiring story @Good Morning America 📌

@pingpongballz5998 October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Jesus, I'm not white but I don't talk about my race. I JUST RIDE MY DAMN BIKE!

@Slowjo1221 October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

I watched Justin win the Harlem Skyscraper Cycling Classic and it brought tears to my eyes to see all the Belizean people rush him after crossing the finish line. They were so proud of him. Girmay was electric during the last Tour De France. This sport is incredible!

@ill_will1338 October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Very nice segment! Go Bini! And Williams! Both are great cyclist

@wong5150 October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

I rode on a l39ion social ride in park city a couple of years ago. great people in that organization

@GotDamBoi October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

why are people so obsessed with diversity

@roxic1212 October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Wonderful

@Tony.in.motion October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Justin Williams is a stud

@tuliolopez9749 October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Some people go to church on Sunday to feel good about themselves. I ride my bike.

@Thebikewrench October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Cycling is a microcosm in the U.S, with little to no money to be made at a professional level in the U.S. the best athletes in the U.S. most whom are POC and become professional athletes want to get paid. This debate has been ongoing for decades, it’s not a color issue it’s economic.

@ianstewart8301 October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Glad you’re covering this!

@itstrbo October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Lets be honest Justin Williams has more in common with Lance Armstrong than he does with Biniam Girmay. They're from completely different countries/cultures. This need to box ppl by their skin color is so outdated.

@tikilanichols8023 October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

I cycle to clear my head and be alone… cheers.

@Flippy2100 October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

feel good segment

@AJXOXO-vz1pn October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Cycling is too expensive. Equipment is too expensive. Shoes and apparel is too expensive. You want to see more minorities in cycling? That’s not happening.

@Mysiamesecatblue October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

I got into cycling this year because of
@ All City Grand Prix
Good to be inclusive and find a space out there I’ll have to check out more of what legion is doing this upcoming year

@Mysiamesecatblue October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

That’s cool. Good stuff

@bengt_axle October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

There are huge recreational road cycling communities in cities like Miami and Atlanta that are not necessarily Black cycling clubs, but are composed primarily of Black members. I think it is very good to see organized events such as Saturday morning rides and even multiday events. Luis Scott (@thegoodwheel) has a YT channel that has covered them. Physical activity is an excellent way to encourage more healthy living in these and all other communities, as well as enjoy some good times at social events.

@starblazers01 October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Actually the first black cyclist at the TdF was Yahann Gene in 2011. Not much coverage on Major Taylor or Nelson Vails.

@sinceremaintain October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Excellent

@Music-pq8cm October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

As a 42 year Cyclist, I find this video to be offensive and racist.

If you want to ride a bike, get one and ride the damn thing. No non-black (white) cyclists
give a shit about your race or gender for that matter. In my 42 years of cycling, everybody is welcomed to join in.

In fact, it seems like the only people that care about race or gender are non-whites and some women … and the race baiting divisive idiots who produce this video. The only race centric cycling groups I have seen are non-white and women. I see evidence that blacks are prone to prefer riding with blacks, Asians with Asians, Hispanics with Hispanics and women with women. There is no exclusion within cycling in general for people who are not white.

So if you want to talk about inclusivity, spend time talking about why non-whites and women want to self segregate in the sport of cycling.

@javy9412 October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

As a Mexican American, The Williams Bros inspired me to start cycling back in 2019 after reading an article on Outside Magazine. 2024 was my first racing season with a local team and did about 15 races.

@davyengone October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

It’s not about race people. You don’t have to make it about race

@jooohan-i9o October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Wow. Ok. Hello from Europe. Good luck (I guess?)

@christhee68 October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Pretty slick that the reporter gets to do a story on his favorite activity. I can just hear him pitching that idea to his bosses.

@selinov October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

"Rising?" – I feel like the national multi-champion has already risen at age 35. 🤷🏽‍♂
Thank you for being a guiding light, Justin and Cory.

@kurtg3891 October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Cycling has become quite alot more expensive in the last few yrs with the rapid inflation rates and truth is i even know alot of white people of average income who recently stopped participating in bike races, not because they didnt enjoy it but simply just because of the increased cost of the race and travel fees and the general needs for the latest equipment to be equally competitive, which can nowdays be upward of 5 to $6,000 just for an average level racing bike… So based on that i dont see how very many poverty level kids from the hood regardless of their race are going to be rushing into competitive cycling in the yrs ahead.

@Huskyman1 October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Opening the door for everyone

@anthonyhuber-permanentlyre7808 October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Diversity is only seen as an issue when it is perceived to many White ppl participate in that activity.

I wonder if GMA would run a segment about the lack of Diversity in the NBA?
I mean, UAE Team does not give a damn about diversity, it means nothing to them, and they are the team to beat at the big races.

@facelesssman October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Why all the race hustling by GMA??? It’s racist state or believe that Williams is only successful because he needed white liberals to speak for him. News flash…Cycling is expensive for EVERYONE!!!

This is why media is dead! Tone deaf and racist!

@GonzoM1A1 October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Girmay is the real deal. Williams is a well documented jerk.

@PatrickLino October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

I got into cycling right as The Williams Brothers started their L39ion team. As someone with also a Belizean background, the inspiration these dudes gave me early on was truly special. Even had the opportunity to met the Williams Bros in person few years back. Stand up act.

@ragweedmakesmesneeze October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

The local amateur racing scene here in NYC, much like the people of the city, is actually pretty diverse! You have to get up at 5am or earlier to catch a race in Prospect or Central Park, but when you do, you'll see racers who reflect a wider range of ethnicities and cultures than the professional world of bike racing.

@mistergorgeous October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Girmay is amazing. So glad you got to interview him!

@devengudinas1649 October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

That hood is still has gang and drug activity

@ThePulseWithDavidCarmena October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Great segment, we need to have more stories like this! Good Job!!

@RookYZRM1 October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Seems like this "Diversity and Inclusion" movement is really focused on skin color, pretty sure there's a word for that…🤔…

@randyreadstheholyquran2342 October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

A bike should be inexpensive that’s why majority white because they manipulated cycling.

@Vitestrategy October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

IMO it is hard to get anybody to like type 2 fun (an activity that is challenging and uncomfortable in the moment, but is rewarding and fun to reflect on later) Cycling chose the William's brothers the Williams brother did not choose cycling. The Williams brother would have been a positive influence in the community if Tiddlywinks was their sport. Chapeau to the Williams brothers

@beyondhuman3148 October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

🦆💨

@paxundpeace9970 October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Biniam Girmay made it for me with his 3 Tour de France Stage victories as well as holding and gaining the Green Sprinter Jersey for much of Tour.

@gabbyallong October 17, 2024 - 8:16 am

Yay Justin!
