Welcome back to GameVault HQ! In today’s video, we take a deep dive into UFO 50, a massive collection of 50 retro-inspired games created by the developers behind Spelunky and Downwell. This incredible compilation brings a nostalgic arcade experience straight to modern consoles and PCs, offering a wide range of genres—from platformers, shooters, and puzzle games to RPGs, sports, and more. Whether you’re into quick arcade action or longer, story-driven adventures, UFO 50 has something for everyone.
Throughout this review, we’ll explore some of the standout titles in the collection, like the atmospheric Night Manor, the skill-based Pingolf, and the wild west JRPG Grimstone. We’ll also discuss how the game’s retro design brings a level of challenge with old-school mechanics and difficulty spikes. But don’t worry, there’s plenty of fun to be had, especially with local multiplayer options in nearly a third of the games, perfect for teaming up with friends.
Is UFO 50 worth the price for retro gaming fans or newcomers to the genre? We break down the pros and cons of the collection, from its nostalgic pixel art and chiptune soundtracks to the occasional difficulty frustration of some titles. We also highlight how the team behind UFO 50 created an alternate universe where these games were all supposedly developed by a fictional, obscure 1980s game company, giving this collection a unique sense of identity.
Whether you’re looking for a nostalgic trip back to the 8-bit era or just curious about what this massive indie game collection has to offer, this review covers everything you need to know about UFO 50. We’ll give you our final rating and help you decide if this is a must-buy addition to your game library.
If you enjoy retro games, indie game collections, or are a fan of the developers’ previous work on Spelunky and Downwell, be sure to watch until the end to see our verdict. Just some more context on why I believe this, there is no channel in the world with 500 subs that would have the resources or the mental willpower to churn out 2-3 reviews a day, all with the exact same unwavering and overly verbose voice-over.
