Xbox One: “The Worst Generation to Lose”

Thanks for Watching!
I STREAM HERE: twitch.tv/ZackLillipad
When we talk about the least successful video game consoles of all time, the Xbox One is not really in that conversation, selling a respectable 58 million units. But as the years have gone on since that console’s life cycle, it’s clear some of the events that took place have left a lasting scar on the Xbox brand as a whole. In 2023 head of Xbox, Phil Spencer said the Xbox One generation was the worst console generation to lose. In today’s video I want to take a look back at the Xbox One to figure out what exactly happened, and what would lead to such a brutally honest quote from Phil Spencer.

I remember that too and I thought the same thing but being a halo fan I went with Xbox🤦‍♂️ after halo five came out I swapped to PlayStation and never looked back.

I respects everyone’s opinions about Xbox but really shouldn’t be bashing the name because of its state and performance because I’m pretty sure that PS has some flaws and mistakes it makes from time to time

Geez, it was for a while but not anymore. GamePass draws more people in, than their old library of games. Most people do not play their older games anymore. Playstation is where Xbox was, overpriced and full of shit. Xbox has rebounded and now has double the users than Playstation. More users, higher profits, the largest library of games and that's without selling the most consoles. It's not 1995 anymore. Playstation is done in the foreseeable future. Especially with the idiotic release of the PS5 Pro. If people want to chase power, they'll go to PC. Xbox is the future.

As of today xbox October 12th 2024 xbox has stopped selling console in Saudi Arabia and potentially the Middle East as a whole

@kungfuscubabape953 October 12, 2024 - 7:25 pm

Ps5 is better cause they have better games.

@chackibbouguerra1681 October 12, 2024 - 7:25 pm

Viva Xbox

@XlPackratlX October 12, 2024 - 7:25 pm

Again, you are another one of those content creators that mistakens competition as just one market. Consolebeare becoming a shrinking market and people will go to services where Xbox has a major foothold in.

Pretty accurate vid. I think what’s sealing the deal on the downward trend for Xbox certainly is Gamepass and not having enough exclusives. While it’s nice to have everything on all platforms… it leads to people to just sticking to what they have. I get COD was too big of a series to keep exclusive, but every other game?

And seeing how complacent Sony is with the PS5 Pro… maybe COD should’ve gone exclusive too, to give Xbox at least something.

They lost so bad this gen they have CTE clearly… Bethesda is a dumpster trash on fire 🔥. RIP xbox.

XBOX ONE ORGINAL PLANS BACKFIRED BADLY PROVED AT THE END OF THE DAY ITS WE THE CONSUMERS WHO DECIDE THIS ' HAVE ALL THE POWER '

This was a great essay. Thanks!

@willnatmartin October 12, 2024 - 7:25 pm

Dear Zack, what does Avowed, Hellblade 2, The Medium, Redfall, Starfield and Stalker 2 running at 30fps on the Series S&X have to do with the Xbox One? I’ll wait…..

@willnatmartin October 12, 2024 - 7:25 pm

BS! Phil Spencer destroyed Xbox. Stop blaming the launch of the Xbox 1. PS3 turned things around with great exclusives. Phil keeps giving you all 30fps games in 2024.

@PuppetzWitAttitudez October 12, 2024 - 7:25 pm

I had 7 rings of death. And will never go back.

@DanRelayer_Ukraine October 12, 2024 - 7:25 pm

Now Playstation has completely moved away from disc based game ownership.

As for Xbox – it's unofficially dead. When was the last exclusive for Xbox released?

@Blind_Hawk October 12, 2024 - 7:25 pm

I do not think we need console competition we need systems that aren't anti-cosumer, doesn't live off from exclusives games and are just easy to pick up and convenient with the power of pcs and emulation to preserve older games that you literally can't buy anymore.

XBOX One S, PS5 and so on not being able to emulate older games, especially predecessors is infurating. It is lousy hardware engineering because the PS2 and early PS3s could do it NATIVELY. That is one of the reasons why I would prefer PCs, of course you need to live under the hell of Windows but you get so much benefits and even fix issues in the games by yourself.

@cutterhiggins3427 October 12, 2024 - 7:25 pm

Playstation is king and you can't kill the king lol

@ADukesJustice October 12, 2024 - 7:25 pm

It's pretty funny how Xbox were ahead of the curve (in a bad way) with always online because now 99% of AAA games require you to be online

@Stjon4L October 12, 2024 - 7:25 pm

Xbox snap was goated idc that’s when Xbox died for they took it away

@elroyhoyabembe4828 October 12, 2024 - 7:25 pm

Equally important are the aesthetics and UI. When I boot my PS5, the console, controller and interface FEEL like a next gen console. When I boot my series X; the UI, console and controller are damn near all identical to the last gen. It feels more like a cheap update rather than a next gen console.

@Truekingr6 October 12, 2024 - 7:25 pm

My non gamer friend was so excited to play sparking zero but he went and bought an xbox One x, thinking he was buying a series x

@cullbear55 October 12, 2024 - 7:25 pm

The story of the Xbox One reveal is eerily similar to the Sega Saturn, where Sony strides on stage and roasts the competition right after.

Then Dreamcast and Series S/X practically had to give stuff away for free to try and keep things afloat.

@cappy2282 October 12, 2024 - 7:25 pm

I loved my 360 but I went back to Nintendo

@Saibot79 October 12, 2024 - 7:25 pm

Xbox Series consoles are failing because it has NO games. Game pass is killing it's own console. Exclusive games sell consoles.

@danieldevito6380 October 12, 2024 - 7:25 pm

Spencer was 100% correct about the digital games being the cause of Xbox's downfall. I have about 325 PS games, and only about 10 of them are physical copies. Because of this, there will never be another console generation where I don't but the PS.

@AntonioCunningham October 12, 2024 - 7:25 pm

A few Corrections. A lot of console releases we're not blank slates. For example the PS2 was backwards compatible with PS1. The Wii was backwards compatible with Gamecube.

Also Game Pass is a cancer that's killing the Xbox brand.

I will not buy a game on the Xbox that's been a day one Gamepass release. I rather sail the high seas than support this cancer.

While I do want more competition in the console space, I want game pass to fail more.

@gr8siegetv776 October 12, 2024 - 7:25 pm

I think all of these pony fan boys forget, that Microsoft still wins in the end. PC players use the windows OS to play their games. Long after PS is gone windows aka Microsoft aka parent company of xbox still makes a profit. Take that up your pony.

@floatinjellies October 12, 2024 - 7:25 pm

Don’t get me started about always online. it is 2024, and I live in a place that still has really spotty Wi-Fi. I don’t really play many competitive games, so I play single player games. But because I decided to be an idiot and purchase digital copies of my games, I’m constantly locked out of them because my goddamn console can’t properly connect to the Internet

@Vanillagorilla94 October 12, 2024 - 7:25 pm

They should just call the next gen Xbox, Xbox 720. To relate with the best Xbox gen, the 360.
