Xbox has lost its way

by admin

Xbox has lost the confidence of its customers. Lets talk about it

Correction : I mentioned LinkedIn being non profitable. This is incorrect. LinkedIn generated $1.7 billion from premium subscriptions in 2023.

Note: this is an opinion based piece and you should consider it as one.

Meant to say Quake Remaster at 10:20. Let me know how you feel about the state of Xbox and its future with gamepass

@JasonSpanhur October 8, 2024 - 7:21 pm

Most new games suck. I pretty much only play old games. Fromsoft is the only company i look forward to new games from.

I hated rentals when blockbuster was around, and I still hate them to this day.

I want to own the game fully, or I'm not interested. Subscription services can sod off.

I used to live in Seattle where Bill Gates and the heart of Microsoft live. Trust me, Microsoft killed itself before it ever really began.

According to those leaked Microsoft documents found during their trail in 2020, Microsoft fully intends to self-destruct if they don’t get their way with Game Pass.

If the documents’s plans are still “in progress”, it means that they absolutely meant to start the trend of Digital Only so they could own your library for as long as they’re willing to keep Xbox as a brand going. Which means Digital Only Series X, a “Streaming Box” in place of the Series S, something akin to the PlayStation Portal, and finally…

…FULLY CLOUD-(UN)BASED AS A SERVICE (not their exact words but what they really mean)!

That is, IF they can stick the landing with Game Pass on Switch/Nintendo’s next “console” and the PS5 once Sony decides to play ball. They intend to stick around forever as Windows Gaming Live 2.0, which is to say as “a type of gaming experience” if they can’t as a console by 2030.

Between those leaks and email correspondence from Phil Spencer about his (now) failed coup to steal Nintendo through Stock Ownership shenanigans…you’d swear that Billy G. was really the one calling the shots

I bought the one, One X, S, and X. Why did they release so many systems so quickly!?

Holy crap, you said it. The thing I've felt for years. I won't buy Pass because it's like Netflix, and they kill everything I like. I really miss going to a store and perusing games, debating on whether or not to buy them. My first buy was Deus Ex, and I stopped a few years ago because it was just a disk that had an installer for their store, and a key printed on a card. I think the last game I bought (and actually bought+own) was Unreal 3, and that was.. Years ago. Ownership is dead without a console, and I'm pissed to see it. GOG is a new hero of mine, but it's not full of new releases.

7:57 "You were saying that under the right circumstances, a Producer could make more money with a flop than he could with a hit."

Time was, you could farm the Microsoft Rewards so good, it paid for your Gold/Game Pass Ult. sub. I literally haven't paid money for it, for years (except a few times I let it run out to use the $1/mo promo). Even had enough to give my friend GP for a long time. Of course Rewards have been nerfed HARD over the past couple years or so.

If I run out of points, I DO NOT plan on actually paying for it. Ultimate used to be $15, end of 2023 $17, now Sep 2024 it's hiking to $20. They spent $100B hovering up studios and IPs, then fired a bunch, then raise prices to make up that money I guess. And I don't like complaining about the games that get added to Game Pass, there should be variety; however, I kinda feel that more and more "shovelware-y" games are getting added.

Storage space isn't an issue for me, I was installing most GP games as they got added, except for some I knew I didn't care about. However I typically don't end up playing most of them, and the next interaction is uninstalling when they leave, so I've stopped bothering to even install most new ones, even though I have space. I barely play them, especially with handfuls leaving EVERY TWO WEEKS. I LOVE Halo, still haven't bothered to play Infinite. I LOVE Bethesda games, still haven't bothered to play Starfield. Definitely DO NOT want to pay money for those games either. Overall I care less and less about modern games anyway, the ones I most enjoy are Xbox 360 era (or remasters of) and older.

@dazza7321 October 8, 2024 - 7:21 pm

Crazy how people would have a Microsoft product in their house anyway.😂

@XMguy October 8, 2024 - 7:21 pm

As someone who has been a console player since the Dreamcast (launch), PS2, and then Xbox. I like Xbox the best. Only games I like the most on PS (I have a PS4 slim) is God Of War (wolves). I don’t think it’s Xbox as much as Microsoft. Look at all their changes. Calls that were made, only to be reversed. I will say the Series is the best way for folks like me on a fixed income to play Next Gen games on the more affordable side. While I have a Steam Deck. I still use the One S, even though I have a Series S. I started really gaming from PS2. Then moved to the Xbox OG. I’m not a fan boy of either. I just want the best way to play werewolf games. 😂

It's not a coincidence that these western companies focused on hiring with DEI in mind and now everything sucks. Hollywood, gaming, music, all sucks. Meanwhile Japan is still holding on strong. I hope the whole DEI stuff ends now, and these companies fire the people that never deserved these positions in the first place, and focus on hiring people based on how skillful they are.

@ltraltier6009 October 8, 2024 - 7:21 pm

I was done with xbox after their 2017 comm ban purges.

@ChristianMiersch October 8, 2024 - 7:21 pm

I think you are spot on, and I love your channel for the constantly outstanding content and no nonsense commentary over all these years. What you describe here was an insight for me as I never did own a console, but I think it is part of a larger trend to strip away ownership of goods and all kinds of freedom we used to have. Not only in the gaming industry, but everywhere, and regardless of the consequences. A kind of self destruction if you will.

@alex.starostin October 8, 2024 - 7:21 pm

Playstation isn't much better. Same story almost applies to Sony. And Nintendo. The big difference is that these companies make great 1st party exclusive games which really sell their consoles

@atari1040 October 8, 2024 - 7:21 pm

Buying Bethesda and not releasing even Quake Championship for Xbox… Microsoft is sick completely!!! And Phil become another corpo-rat… Sorry Phil – you are pathetic ;-(

@skipperbentdk October 8, 2024 - 7:21 pm

Their own greed is killing them. Remember when you got exposed to games in blockbuster or supermarket. They wanted all the revenue for themselves

@JonDoe-gi5zf October 8, 2024 - 7:21 pm

I Was about to cancel this video was the last nail. Gamepass is a bit dry right now anyway.

@SeijuroHiko-vx3lw October 8, 2024 - 7:21 pm

I think Steam with the Steam Deck showed how the consoles's hardware will evoluate. It was in the first place the idea of the original Xbox. At the begining of its developtment the idea was to disguise a PC into a console. This idea was abandoned but it is exaclty what is the Steam Deck. If Xbox goes to this way, it will can have Playstation games on its platform.

@davecurtis86 October 8, 2024 - 7:21 pm

They need to take notes from Nintendo Switch success… Games don't need to be 4k

@SonicNinja6600 October 8, 2024 - 7:21 pm

Gaming used to be about passionate visions come to life, now it's all about numbers and marketing. It's truly sad. Just make great games and the money will follow.
