Microsoft has announced sweeping changes to the pricing and structure of its Game Pass subscription service. There are price hikes across the board: Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is going up to $19.99/month, an increase of $3. And the basic console tier is to be phased out and replaced with a new Xbox Game Pass Standard tier that will not include day-one releases like the forthcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
The changes were reported by Windows Central and confirmed by Microsoft on an official Xbox support page.
Effective immediately, Xbox Game Pass for Console is no longer available for new subscribers. Members who are already subscribed to Game Pass for Console and have automatic payment renewal enabled will be able to continue to use it, including the access it offers to day-one games.
Xbox Game Pass Standard will become available to new or lapsed subscribers “in the coming months,” Microsoft said. This new tier will not include day-one releases of Microsoft-published games like Black Ops 6, Obsidian’s Avowed, and Bethesda’s Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. But it will include online multiplayer, which is currently not part of the Game Pass for Console plan. Microsoft did not say how long it would take for its big first-party games, or other day-one releases, to cycle into the back catalog of “hundreds” of games offered on the Standard tier. At $14.99/month, it will be more expensive than Game Pass for Console, which has a monthly cost of $10.99.
PC Game Pass subscribers will continue to get day-one games, albeit with a price increase of $2/month. But Game Pass Ultimate is now the only option for console players who want day-one releases and aren’t already signed up to the existing Console plan. (Microsoft sources told Windows Central that “the vast majority” of Game Pass subscribers are already on the Ultimate tier, anyway.)

I'll play where there's tings to play and unfortunately playstation has no game on there subscription service worth paying a premium price for.
PS+ Sucks you don't need it. That is (kinda) true. You don't need it any more than you need Game Pass. Every GamePass game can be purchased ‘a la carte’. But YOU NEED both (PS+ or GamePass Core) if you want to play Online.
True statement: GamePass has conditioned many Xbox gamers to not buy games. Is this a bad thing? Not really, it's just options. I like Options.
Compare with the other consols/PC:
If you just wish to rent your games and play a lot of different games for as little as possible-
For PlayStation you get PS+ Premium/ Extra. Sadly no OPTION to get first party as soon as possible.
On Switch, you pay for the Expansion Pass. Sadly, no Switch game here.
On Xbox, You get GamePass Standard. If you wish to get the first party as soon as possible you upgrade to Ultimate.
On PC you get GamePass for PC.
If you wish to buy your games and play them offline-
On PlayStation you just buy them (physical or digital) and no subscription is needed.
On Switch you just buy them (physical or digital) and no subscription needed.
On Xbox you just buy them (physical or digital) and no subscription needed.
On PC you just buy them mostly digital and no subscription needed.
If you wish to play Online -
On PlayStation you must get PS+.
On Switch you must get NSO.
On Xbox you must get GamePass Core.
On PC you just play (free).
If you want Saves Backup's and online tool (Chat/ETC).
On PlayStation you need PS+ for cloud saves (or a USB storage for PS4 games). Online tools free.
On Switch you need NSO.
On Xbox you get that for free.
On PC you (mostly) get that for free.
Objectively speaking the Xbox ecosystem provides the best value and options on the console space and PC the best value overall.
Objectively speaking, having too many options is not always the best if not done correctly.
Objectively speaking Microsoft has not been good at marketing all the Xbox features.
Objectively speaking ANY online services (physical or digital) will raise prices as time passes. Streaming (Netflix, Hulu, etc), food delivery service, Shopping (Amazon), etc. All services go up in price as time passes. Should we be happy or complacent? NO but that is not an Xbox GamePass specific problem. If you don't like it, DON'T get the service, you DON'T NEED it. But why be mad for things that you don't need when others do?
Don't defend any one company, they are not your friends. Microsoft will gladly take more money out of your pocket if they were the #1 in the space. SONY has shown over and over that they do the same if there were no competition. Nintendo will gladly keep selling you a GameBoy today if there were no competition.
The difference between core-ultimate isn't enough to warrant me taking a stand and cancelling my sub.
When PlayStation raised prices for ps plus, shut down studios, laid off 900 staff, stopped support for PSVR2, stopped production of Blu Ray's, removed purchased movies from PlayStation store, fucked over indie developers by putting those indie games at the very bottom of every sale. I didn't see any PlayStation fanboy or ign, eurogamer, gamespot call out Sony.. aww but when xbox closed 4 studios and raises gp ultimate by 3 dollars apparently xbox is doomed , xbox is dead, xbox this xbox that. Your all full of it
he go into gamepass...these devs arent putting them there for free and not makinh money you clown
