The Xbox Numbers (Light in the Darkness)

Microsoft has released its fiscal earnings report for the end of Q2 calendar and Q4 of its fiscal year. While the numbers for Xbox are not great across the spectrum, there are signs that there is light inside the tunnel for the end of the year.

hardware revenue declined 42% huh... i wonder why.

funny that MS doesnt state the quantity of Xbox sold anymore... the shame is real.

"b-but, who cares about that!! xCloud! xCloud!! xCloud!!! yeeeey"

-_-

At what point does Amy Hood pulls the plug on Xbox console business?
@BOSSSHAWN September 30, 2024 - 2:53 pm
PSN loss 50% of its subscribers in 1 month. That’s pathetic.
@BOSSSHAWN September 30, 2024 - 2:53 pm
Bro what that actually means is Microsoft owns Activision. Activision is Xbox. These hypotheticals are getting pathetic.

Honestly Xbox seems better than fine to me. They've grown so much internally since the tail end of the Xbox One generation (all the studios for the newly formed Xbox Game Studios in 2019, Bethesda, and ABK) and that's finally starting to pay off consistently. They went from a start up to becoming a behemoth in gaming. They have more games on the slate than most major third party publishers. Console hardware has never been the future with the peak being the PS2 at 155m and it dropping since then. Even Nintendo Switch sales aren't that huge for a company like Microsoft. Xbox knows the importance of software revenue and is expanding their overall reach. I am of the opinion they haven't given up on hardware. I think much like games they're going to start delivering on it consistently soon. At least if rumors are to be believed with the 2026 next gen launch and Phil himself saying the showcased focused on games and next is hardware. If that's true than there's not a hugely good reason to push marketing and sales for consoles they don't even want people to upgrade to right now. COVID and their own growth seem to have overshadowed the series consoles and they would so much better be served launching next generation with a consistent game catalog lineup and improved platform and hardware technology.

Regardless of what happens, this decade is certainly history and a defining era for Xbox. One way or the other what's at the end of the tunnel is going to be interesting to see. For right now, I'm curious to watch the next earnings call and see the aftermath of them delivering on the promises in their game showcase.

I think m$ will discontinue Xbox as a console as in 2027. Xbox will be tv app , plug in.
@PLAYER_42069 September 30, 2024 - 2:53 pm
While there are other games on Game Pass, MS's underlying hope is existing CoD players on PlayStation will all of a sudden jump ship to save $70 a year, but that's never going to happen. Once players, and more importantly their friends, are entrenched in an ecosystem, it's nearly impossible to get them to switch due to having to buy the competing console (or have a gaming PC). But this is Xbox's big push, so we'll see how much of an impact (or not) this has this Fall when BO6, releases.
@alex1212456 September 30, 2024 - 2:53 pm
Xbox as far as console goes is really dead. Microsoft making people who play ON AN XBOX pay more for gamepass is INSANITY
@DeadPhoenix86DP September 30, 2024 - 2:53 pm
In my country Xbox doesn't even exist anymore. Its all Playstation and Switch. 10 years ago that was a different story when the PS3 and X360 were neck a neck.
@achtungjamie September 30, 2024 - 2:53 pm
So we getting an Xbox emulator next gen on PC to run our back catalog, cause their hardware is dead?
@Jack_BT-7274 September 30, 2024 - 2:53 pm
So I talked to one of my friends that work at MS, take this as hear 👂 say or whatever but they said “MS bought Activision/ Blizzard partly because of the Gears & Halo issue, mostly because Halo. Microsoft are aware they are letting Halo die & they sort of want it to happen, not saying they are done with it in the future. They don’t want it as a staple brand of MS & that’s why “Gears of war” vs “Gears” is making a return. Microsoft wants that & Call of duty more as the front runners.” They want for the most part everything looked at as a package deal in the tiered system with each user within the next 5-10 years paying the price of a game monthly ($60). They said the $60 dollar price tag is intentional vs $70 to say “for under the price of a full game we offer at are highest tier …”. They understand this is risk but between the cloud, console, & future handheld they will have a minimum of $30 a month being charged within 5yrs.

Ya'll will keep banging this Hardware drum until the world ends, it won't change what MS is doing and the reality of the situation. Hardware is not the future but they are not moving away from it right now... They are making way more money on Software and Services... Yet all people are laser focused on is Hardware, Sales, Sales, Sale... If PS and Nintendo also start going down this route, I wonder if people will keep the same energy?
@matthewhardwick8208 September 30, 2024 - 2:53 pm
Every time I see these numbers it becomes increasingly clear that Xbox's future was entirely dependent on the ABK acquisition getting over the finish line. If they didn't get it done? I don't think Xbox would be around for the long term.

I don't understand why people are separating ABK from Microsoft when talking about the numbers. ABK is owned by Microsoft. So ABK should be counted in. It's like separating Bungie from Sony.
@Roberto_Marx September 30, 2024 - 2:53 pm
This guy is trying to damage control. lol 😂 3rd party publisher. How those gamepass subs? lol 😂

MS has put very little into promoting Xbox hardware, so it makes sense that console growth is down. The fact that they're making money from Activision? Why do you think they invested so much to purchase Activision. MS, afterall, has been a software oriented company since 1976. As long as they still support my Xbox and provide the games I enjoy, I am a happy customer.

They had ALL of their ducks lined up in a row, excitement was growing, then they announced xbox games would be coming to playstation (just 4 my ass). That moment, utterly killed the xbox brand.
@nanopolymath September 30, 2024 - 2:53 pm
Content is king & all of ABK is needed to really move the GPU needle. Some just see one or two games they want & compare that to annual price. Many negate to take into account all the others & perks but again that’s a marketing issue. Still many are confused in which tier they need, many cannot even understand which package of MW they need. Microsoft needs to get ahead of this, make it clearer for all. Hopefully after October, there’s a mini push to drive the new consoles a bit. Handheld may not come until the hybrid next gen. 2026??? Still looking forward to an earnings report where we don’t have to say due to Activision Acquisition lol
@Minetheground September 30, 2024 - 2:53 pm
Microsoft ruined the Xbox 360, and didn't proceed to give a proper goodbye, they just fucked up the dashboard that was already shity
@midway7monster792 September 30, 2024 - 2:53 pm
Hey, did you see the showcase? There's more to xbox than Call of Duty. Every gaming company is chasing numbers. It will never end.
@hottlatinoboi September 30, 2024 - 2:53 pm
Brad Sams may tend to understate matters, but let's be clear: Microsoft's acquisition of Activision is a significant win for the company. Despite a dip in Xbox hardware revenue, this move isn't just about console sales. Many gamers, myself included, primarily play Xbox titles on PC. I own an Xbox Series X, yet find myself gaming more often on my computer. This trend underscores a larger truth: the real financial gains are in software. With Activision now part of their portfolio, Microsoft has certainly bolstered its earnings. It's been an impressive quarter, to say the least.
@HiN00bs12 September 30, 2024 - 2:53 pm
I'm happy to hear that gaybox is failing! I can't wait until bo6 fails and they will have to close more studios in Bethesda and Activision.
@frankkent5567 September 30, 2024 - 2:53 pm
Microsoft has a lot of practice at spinning Xbox's consistently negative performance into a euphemistic positive.
@jared5706 September 30, 2024 - 2:53 pm
I absolutely HATE and don’t like the direction Microsoft is making Xbox go in🤦🏻‍♂️
