10:23 I've seen this tweet in numerous videos, and I'll say the same thing I have before. I don't know what she was smoking when she posted that, but the indie dev industry is booming. Factorio is getting a major update soonTM. Satisfactory just left EA with their ver1.0 release. Islands of Insight is a really cool puzzle game that I'm glad I stumbled across. Tactics Ogre Reborn has been a blast to sink my teeth into as well. For noteworthy releases, Silksong and Path of Exile 2 are in my periphery vision. I've even got an R18+ 2d metroidvania game on my wishlist for when it comes out.

One of the biggest art trends now is artists fix the concord designs and many explain multiple different aspects of how concord character design failed.
Im studying concept art and still don't get who created Concord and its characters. It looks so bad. Even indie devs create better games and designs…
there are so many games coming out we never have enough time to play all of them. We have to basically pick and choose, if they decide to suddenly stop making games for 10 years I think most of us would be able to be perfectly fine with that with our huge backlog of amazing games, we never even tried once.
I'm a freelance 3D artist, I work for suits every day. I have to deal with ridiculous, hazy and vague demands on a daily basis. Clients don't care about composition, color grading, symmetry and all that jazz, they only care about results. My job as a 3D artist is to take those weird mandates and turn them into something coherent and artistically sound.
I seriously doubt executive demands had anything to do with you doing a bad job at such a fundamental level. Those characters are poorly made and them being black, brown, fat and transgender had nothing to do with it. If you are asked to do a black fat character your job as an artist is to make the coolest looking black fat character ever. We have character design principles for a reason, principles you should know and that's your job not the executive's.
I wonder, who's time are they wasting, theirs or ours? They spent 8 years to waste their time and ours…. We want fun games, and they say na while spending a whole decade doing the opposite of what gamers want while they themselves don't even like video games…. So what's the point of whatever it is they're trying to do?

Did you know that nintendo doesnt hire gamers, but instead wants devs ekth other hobbies? Instead they hire people who will inject knowledge of their new hobbies into the games. This is a key aspect of of nintendos origonality and unique approach across the industry to game design.

Of course she's saying this now considering how the game was received. But there is a lot of truth to what she said about leadership. As a game developer, your a tiny cog in a machine. especially on large projects, there's only so much you can pushback and pitch changes in meetings before you get called into a one on one with your team lead or HR and put on a PIP (performance improvement plan). A lot of developers live a life of quite desperation where they don't want to lose their jobs, so they go along with what's being proposed by their woke Leads and Directors. It doesn't matter how hard you row if your in the wrong boat.
Why did Sony give a team of developers who don't like video games, $250 million budget, to let it crash and burn on launch day? Holy hell, why did Sony let people who don't like videos games to make their video game… Why are these damn people even in video game industry when they don't even like video games in the first place? WTF is wrong with these people!!??? WHY THE FVCK IS SONY GIVING CONCORD $250 MILLION BUT THEY WILL NEVER GREEN LIGHT DAYS GONE 2!!!!!???

I can see an apeal to some of the designs itself but nothing i wanna play as.
I feel for player characters its best to keep ot as simplistic (backstory wise) so players can fill the blank.
And the design somthing ppl wanna be. Or be with. Or just awesome in general.

And that is what killing gaming. Gaming development has become factory work, the developers simply don't care about their own product, it's all about finishing before deadlines laid upon them by HQ so they get paid at the end of the month.

There are games where they change the art in the beta stage that is different than the release art.

And it is just not the game devs that lose money. Without a newer generation of bloated and poorly optimized games to push us to buy new hardware the manufacturers of PC gaming hardware are going to suffer as well. Standard component sales might suffer some as well but don't need to buy the new GTX Balls Blaster 12K Warp Rainmaker edition of a video card if you playing 10 year old games because the new ones are crap.
GD artists are often faced with a tough choice….Either submit the artwork that management wants or …dont collect a paycheck.
