the hidden was awesome, i never actually knew about the memes and stuff. I really miss zombie panic and all the fun times in that. source games were special.

Loved your video! I was also into playing mods back in the day, but my “13 year old playing 12 hours a day” prime was more like 2006-2008 with xfire instead of Skype

I was a beta tester for The Ship back in the day. It was supposed to be a more full fledged game based on their HL1 mod of the same name, which I had played a lot. The mechanic to maintain your needs is there because it forces you to wander around the ship rather than hiding in a corner somewhere forever, and of course adds to the atmosphere. The funniest bug was everyone’s hair, facial hair, and hats would randomly freeze in place and you would see them floating around all over the map while all the players became bald

My favorite dead popular mod is Zombie Master. Valve took its idea and made Left 4 Dead which sucked the wind out of their sails big time.

My favorite dead mod nobody played was Plan of Attack, which I don’t think you can even run today. It was trying to be a more strategic counter-strike

Shoutout to Eternal Silence as well which was a spaceship dogfighting mod that was a lot of fun.

Obsidian Conflict was way better than Synergy back in the day, and was the first mod you could really play a co op mode that didn’t crash all the time (not counting Garry’s mod)

RIP TACTICAL INTERVENTION REVIVED. It had full servers almost every day after this video came out, then 2 weeks later the servers went offline due to excessive griefing and never came back on. It is near impossible to find a game :( and that pains me because the game was LITERALLY SO FUCKING GOOD... I know a lot of you have never played, and probably never will get the chance to play, tactical intervention before, but let me tell you it was some of the most fun i've ever had in an online game. the gunplay was wicked satisfying, too. it felt so unique because no other game has had the balls to try and do what it did. I really hope the revived mod gets a second wind, because I want nothing more than to play this game again.

My favorite source game was Dino D-Day, had so many hours on it back in middle school. I think it’s still active but only on Friday or Saturday nights idrk, haven’t played it in a while.

I recall investing in that Kickstarter for Contagion - ironic enough I didn't know of their previous work.
It is certainly a fun game, and is best with friends.
Personally my favorite mode involved extracting survivors - and my favorite map was the suburban neighborhood.
Favorite mod changed a golf club into a katana; but there were other fun mods too for like the flashlight or your phone's background.

Primary difficulty with its campaign were if you joined someone's lobby, you would start at the beginning and have to manage to find the other players (if they haven't died and became infected); this was my main difficulty with NMRIH, but yet I am excited to see NMRIH 2

A "friend" (dude later murdered a child) convinced me to buy "The Ship 4 pack" so all our friends could play together
We never even played a single round, and I've tried off and on for years to get a full match. Never happened.
A full decade (he finally got out of prison and doesn't want to play now either) later I finally deleted it from my steam account.
The Ship is a cursed game

You're definitely not the only one who still remembers these obscure mods. I still regularly play Fistful of Frags which still has a shockingly active player base, but there's three that are far more abandoned that I miss as well. Pirates, Vikings, & Knights II was For Honor before For Honor, and while not many people still play it, it does get sporadic updates. Zombie Master was a great one that was basically Left 4 Dead but with a person randomly chosen to be the one controlling the zombies like an RTS, and that one has a small but dedicated following that meets up for games every other Sunday (coordinated on their public discord server). Lastly though is Eternal Silence, a game that was sort of the Star Wars Battlefront formula of class based team sci-fi shooter where you'd capture objective points and sometimes have space combat. I LOVED playing that one around 2010 or so, but every time I check it nowadays it's completely dead. I keep hoping that someday someone will make a video about it that will revive interest in it.

If you do a second part I would love to see you mention neotokyo. It’s pretty dead but at the weekends there are around 30 players and it’s pretty fun. It’s like counter strike in a ghost in the shell setting.

Some of my favourite classics games from my favourite spaghetti engine, Imo the most iconic gaming clip (seananners and gassymexican "I can smell you"). and shadow of israphael music at the same time shell shocked me with the levels of nostalgia. Not to mention I love cats and great editing
