Wow, this was very interesting. This video should have more views

13:00 I give you respect for playing the sound back in the correct speed unlike most other people in it's original sped up form when it was discovered in 2008.

This video should be recommended to more people. It’s a good one!

If I want to listen to music, I just come here to YouTube. Other than that, I've got CDs. I don't understand anything that came out after CDs. BTW, why isn't this video in chronological order, or any understandable order?

I download my music. I have a huge music collection of over 3,000 songs. Is that bad?

I prefer a record over streaming, a record just sounds more crisp and clear

That was really enjoyable and educational..Thank you!

Jim and Dawn, Thank you again. Love your well researched and executed videos. Really looking forward to your next explorations :)

There actually WERE MUCH older audio recordings! They just weren't known or intended to BE audio recordings. Sound was accidentally captured on ancient pots that were spun on potter's wheels and the tools used to make the pots actually captured the sounds in the room where the pots were being spun and carved those sounds into the pots.

If you included all of the failed formats that never caught on, this could have been 2 hours long.
My favorite are the Volta records; audio recorded on discs & cylinders made of glass, binder's board, wax, & copper.
I like how Techmoan is the top video recommendation on the side because you gave him a shout-out.
Nice to know that RCA was always evil.

Great video. Worth mentioning Valdemar Poulsen& the first magnetic recordings made 1900? Or Dolby C? Or Optical soundtracks?
Otherwise really interesting.

Didn't I watch this one already? Who cares. Pass the popcorn?
@LatitudeSky September 16, 2024 - 12:53 am
Digital micro tape 32khz at 12bit. Yikes. Maybe MP3 aounds good compared to that. But I'm old and not supposed to care about quality, but it is FLAC all the way, or nothing. Storage space and memory cards so so stupidly cheap, there is no excuse for terrible quality. Hell, my phone has more storage space than I had on the first decade of PCs I owned. And every song I own is in my pocket at all times. Everywhere. The freedom is astounding and I would have call you a liar if you went back in time and told me this would be trivial.

Unrelated, but I didn't know I've Just Seen A Face was the opening track for Rubber Soul in North America, interesting
