Samurais have been a big part of movie history and samurai movies have created some of the most compelling characters in film history. There is a lot to work with because samurais often live by the Bushido code, which involves abiding by the virtues of morality, courage, compassion, politeness, sincerity, respect, loyalty, and self-control.

That’s a lot to work with in order to create great characters for cinema and we haven’t even counted samurais that have strayed away from the path of the warrior.

I was surprsed not to see the 1962 Chushingura on the list. Anyway, it's my favorite film of the 47 Ronin story.

As a genre in cinema, like Western movies, the world of samurai is very dramatic and a favorite of most moviegoers. But as a historical case , there is in fact nothing of morality and chivalry and support for the poor and oppressed people in the samurai religion . its nothing but killing anybody dare to protested against the master . there was nothing good and beautiful in this cult.

Zatoichi wasn't a "samurai character". He's a blind masseur with a gambling addiction. Owning a sword doesn't make you a samurai just like that.

Seriously? GTFOOH! This list is trash. Why did they list several non "Samurai" movies on here, and leave out greats like Ran, The Fall of Ako Castle (Swords of Vengeance, 47 Ronin) and When the Last Sword is Drawn?

I remember renting a samurai movie in the 80s about a samurai and his son travelling, the kid was in a wooden pram that had knives in the wheels...can't remember the name of it for the life of me but I'd love to see it again.

1:25 AVENGERS was NOT inspired by the 7 Samurai film, it was a rip-off of the DC Justice League. Stan Lee has stated this (although he uses the word 'inspired') so please, do your research.

The other two movies which accompany Twilight Samurai are also fantastic and quite different. Love and Honour and The Hidden Blade.

Also have to say Ran is possibly Kurosawa's best film.

Correction... Zatoichi – not a pair of sisters. Siblings – brother & sister. Obviously commentator didn’t actually watch the film.
