I think you missed most of the fucking satire in this song.. You absolute bellend 😅😂🤦🏻‍♂️

@Dagobah359 September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

You've heard Weird Al before. How can you possibly take this song seriously when it's so obviously trolling.

@Dagobah359 September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

I reject your definition of "the music industry". It didn't die, but it definitely changed. It democratized. The major label executives were definitely losing money, but it got so much easier for starting musicians to be discovered.

@adam1229400 September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

Bro did not realize he was sarcastic 😂😂😂

@river_acheron September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

You get that Al was being sarcastic right?

@ShadowMage3D September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

"Don't Download this Song
You'll burn in Hell before too long (and you'll deserve it!)
Go and Buy the CD (Go out and buy it!)
Like you know that you should (You cheap bastard!)"

I love this song.

@comboga September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

Weird Al had this as a free download on his myspace profile.

@JackSearle-lb7up September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

The best part is this song was free to download

@MrTDubya September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

How the f*ck did you get through the entire video without realizing the satire?

@karnliberated2030 September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

The context of when and how this was released is really important. "Even Lars Ulrich knows it's wrong" is directly in reference to Metallica throwing a hissy fit over the mp3 takeover. Weird Al saw how the future of music was shaping up and offered this song for free to download from his website. Never has there been a more hilarious way to release a song, and it will be difficult for another artist to match the timing Weird Al was able to nail with the release of this ridiculous gem.

@InterdimensionalCowlick September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

I just found this channel and watching dude take weird al serious af had me rolling! Great reaction!

@victormgv September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

That fade away gets me every time “Just go and buy it. You cheap bastard!” 😂😂😂

@victormgv September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

It’s a slippery slope man… a slippery slope 😂😂😂

@MsOpportunity68 September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

Weird Al knew this wasn't the case, but was trying to call out the arguments that the music industry were making to protect their profits and lifestyle in both demonising and prosecuting people from all demographics of life. They also lobbied hard with governments around the world as well because of the threat that they felt they were under..

@pfredflyer September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

He joked this year about how badly Spotify pays artists on their platform. Obviously Al is making more than your average artist but he also splits parody songs revenue with the original artists. All artists deserve more money but most artists i talk to are more pissed with middlemen taking money than poor fans.

@a9ball1 September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

I'm older, turned 63 today and I love to sing along with this song.
Go Al!

@Chrisfragger1 September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

The song is a PARODY… He is intentionally making fun of the artists who went nuts about this… Like Metallica. He actually put this song on his website for free…

@SomethingScotty September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

This was way before 2006. Also a lot of musicians at the time expressed that they didn't care if their singles were downloaded. KoRn came out with a song called "Y'all Want A Single?!" that they encouraged people to download because they were using that as a big middle finger to the music industry that was fucking them over at the time.

@valdas420 September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

first songs then GTA

@captbohica September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

I don't know if anyone will even read this comment, but if you crank the volume as the song is fading out, you'll hear something special. I crack up every time I hear it!

@malusignatius September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

So, a couple of points:

Firstly, artists didn't make much off of CD sales with rare exception, and less off of streaming. The chief people 'losing money' were the music companies, and TBH, given how they fleece customers and screw over artists and have done so since there's been a music industry, they can get stuffed.

Al was aware of this, and this song is basically a big middle finger at the exploitative nature of the industry he worked in.

Second, there was a big ad campaign against downloading that directly referred to internet piracy as if it was analogous to serious crime (It's tagline was 'You wouldn't download a car'). Weird Al's poking fun at that too.

@jasonballard5988 September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

IT"S A JOKE STUPID!!!!!

@DarkTider September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

"it's not that serious, weird al." My new favorite quote 😀

@fantasticmio September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

When this song first came out, Al made a post about it on his website that included, "and you can download this song here, here, here, here, here, and here" with a bunch of links

@MMuraseofSandvich September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

"The music industry was done."

The "music industry" was not done, notice that the record labels and radio stations survived just fine. The record stores, however, were done-zo, and the labels didn't care at all about them, they only cared about the theoretical lost sales of CDs and tapes (and I say "theoretical" because their claimed losses dwarf US GDP). The only reason any record stores still exist is because of the recent vinyl boom.

In any case, the music industry at large tends to settle on existing technology and passively make money off the backs of artists. This is an industry that does not innovate and should have died when cassette tapes started "threatening" radio.

@jackhemsworth7515 September 8, 2024 - 8:47 pm

DSLR killed film cameras, and Mp3's killed analogue music, but it's still not dead.
