The War Within is just around the corner but we cannot deny the WoW community remains very cynical of the game. As Blizzard steps into this expansion, what are they doing to win back the players and most importantly… Should you play it?

Plus as you said the pacing needs to be better all around on the story as the gaps are just horrible. It brings you out of it but another issue I think that is far bigger is that a MAJORITY of the story does not happen in the game. They have time and time again put it into the books and then referenced it with a hand wave in the game. So you had no idea how they got so powerful or why this action was so emotional for them. This needs to stop because games like GW2 the books compliment the story but at no point does it force that into the game. They are just wonderful additions that do not leave those just playing the games with "What the hell happened?!" syndrome. So when a character that was bigger in the book shows up it is a nice nod and it does not leave those playing the game with the above.
As you said as well. The grass is greener on the other side. I have been in and out of WoW since Cata because of the player base just as much as the story being bad. Blizzard needs to combat this toxic community mindset and make it a thing they always do. Because while there are bad players in every game? They are not rewarded in other games. You see bans happen Final Fantasy and Guild Wars 2 down the road. Players get punished for being super racist by the developers. While the community itself also policies the toxic must be top DPS 24/7 mindset. So you end up wanting to help each other. WoW's community nor developers do any of this. There are long-term toxic player names known on servers. Along with groups booting you over the smallest of things. Like the other night on stream when you got booted for accidently pulling a SINGLE MOB! WoW is famous for toxicity and Blizzard needs to start fighting that if they hope to keep people here because they've now tasted that it can be better.
That said this is a wall of text. Maybe we can do what you said and set somethings aside but they also need to acknowledge that it was bad and reference it less. Because that is what things like comics/books do with retcons. Because as long as they constantly reference it the wound isn't going to really heal. I'll give it a shot but only as a side thing because I'm not a twenty something with the patience to wait a decade anymore for it. We are getting older and I'd like to see some stories wrap up BEFORE I die of old age.
I have massive issues with how 14 tells its story, but I do appreciate that it's front loaded, giving them time to flesh out the world afterwards while prepping for the next expansion.
5/10. It's ok and still needs lots of work. Hopefully some changes in near future.
Keep in mind that Anduin went off by himself (he didn't make a scene at his throne or anything like that) because of the twisted and terrible things the jailor made him do. He's pissed at himself, disappointed, disgusted, lost all faith in himself. You don't think that'd be you in that situation? "Pull yourself up from your bootstraps man" fuck, get real. You see another man cry and say "pfft, men don't cry" because you've never been taught how to express that side of you, probably even when you are by yourself.
People go through painful things, often that we've never experienced or seen. We should put ourself in their place and empathise with them, and if you don't know how, stop and think about it for yourself. Therapy or counseling could help too.
The old artstyle in WoW was evocative of warcraft 3. The first 2 expansions dealt with warcraft 3 villians, the 3rd dealt with a warcraft 2 and beloved novel villian, the 4th brought to life a joke from warcraft 3.
WoW needs the hype from its RTS roots.
