When I first watch Robinson Crusoe on Mars back in the 70's I was expecting a cheesy stinker, but I enjoyed it. I like being surprised. It's one of my favorite Sci/Fi movies.
The Sinbad movies were pretty good and came on t.v. after Saturday morning cartoons. Solent Green was another good movie.
There all great 1960s Sci-Fi movies. Thanks.
Let's not forget the follow-up to Village of the Damned — the also-excellent "Children of the Damned" — and while we're at it, there was also the just-plain, "The Damned" — another science fiction film featuring children starring Oliver Reed.
And also there was, "The Earth Dies Screaming" — pulpy horror science fiction but memorably creepy.
In Robinson Crusoe, Colonel Dan McReady made it back to Earth and became Batman a couple of years later. His grandson, also named Dan McReady, showed up as the helicopter pilot in John Carpenter's "The Thing".
the illistrated man, gorgon, and quartermas were the only movies i haven't seen, 9 out of 12 ain't bad🤔🤔😁😁😁😁🇺🇲🦅🇺🇲
Day of the Triffids, First Men in the Moon, Robinson Crusoe on Mars, Mysterious Island, Fantastic Voyage, and Village of the Damned were all movies I first saw decades ago and IMHO merit a re-watch. I don't think I've seen any of the others, but I'm now on the lookout for them.
Thank you. Illustrated Man is a favorite of mine forever. The 50s and 60s really were the golden age of Sci fi, with a charm that cannot be duplicated today. Also, a must-watch is 1957's The Gamma People. Thoroughly Entertaining from Beginning to end, and Island of Terror (1966), with Edward Judd, Peter Cushing and Carol Grey. It's a knuckle-biter, with brilliantly witty dialog, especially the banter between Judd and Grey.
Cyborg 2087 — predated The TERMINATOR
I have a question about a movie. I'd seen only the end of it on TV as a rerun in the 1970's. Does this scene sound familiar? A planet was about to hit the earth. Nearness caused problems with our planet, as people attempted to find ways to evacuate. At the last second, scientists realized it would be a near miss. Rockets would be able to take people to the other planet. At the nearest point, people on earth could see crystalline towers of cities on the other planet, backlit by golden sunshine. I'd like to see the whole movie; but without a name, I can't find it. Can you help?
Quatermass and the Pit freaked me out when I was a kid.
I got alot of these movies love them all
Children of the Damned / The Day the Earth Caught Fire / The Phantom Planet / Angry Red Planet
GREAT LIST! JOB WELL DONE!
quatermass really scared me as a child. there were many good sci fi films of that era and many others that were shlock. another good film was "the power"
Here in Brazil 🇧🇷, Globo TV Network had a popular program called Sessão da Tarde (Afternoon’s Season) … that program is part of the childhood and adolescence of 2 generations of Brazilians. With that programming I had contact with a lot of cinema gems like The Planet Of The Apes (The Five Original Movies) and four movies presented here: First Men In The Moon, Robson Crusoe On Mars, Mysterious Island & Fantastic Voyage. What a wonderful time of my life!
Ah: about Village of Dammed – I could swear it was a John Carpenter movie! Now I know Carpenter movie was a remake.
You have my thankfulness.
😊
I saw almost all of these as a kid on the local uhf station on Saturday and Sunday afternoons growing up.
I am regarded as something of an in-depth expert on all these movies. Your total and complete disregard for SPOILERS forces me to unsubscribe. You just don't know, when to shut up, do you? Absolutely unbelievable
A fantastic list that I have to agree with, more or less, in its entirety. "The Gorgon," a must-see, is horror and NOT science fiction, however. I have always had a problem with the ease some people mix these two genres. I would replace it with "Journey to the Far Side of the Sun." Just a small criticism of an otherwise sound list of must-see movies of the 1960s. Thank you.
How about the Incredible Shrinking Man?
Towering Inferno and Earthquake double header at the drive in. Shake and Bake.
Excellent list. Two that I'd nominate are "The Projected Man" and "Unearthly Stranger".
The first is a tale of a teleportation experiment gone horribly wrong. It could have easily seemed a rip-off of "The Fly" but it's very different, especially in what the effects of the accident are.
Unearthly Stranger is a very low budget affair, but the story is intriguing enough to overcome that. A scientist begins to realise that there is something very odd about his beautiful wife. She sleeps with her eyes open and can take a casserole straight out of the oven with her bare hands. There are two standout performances in it, Patrick Newell ("Mother" from The Avengers) as an investigator who should have been given his own series, and Jean Marsh as a stern secretary who should have been his sidekick.
Most of my favorite movies from the sixties. I had a habit of reading the books before watching the movies it they were available. Day of the triffids was a fantastic book but the movie not as good. 1959 journey to the center of the earth out shined them all.
Barbarella with Jane Fonda.
Donald Pleasance yelling "I CAN'T MOVE MY HANDS" in "Fantastic Voyage" haunts me to this day.
Angry Red Planet scared children in the 1960's it was so new and ground breaking.
……not 1960’s, but two films’ I’ve always enjoyed are, ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’, with the wonderful Michael Rennie, + Gort. Also ‘Invaders from Mars’. The creature in the plastic bubble still scares the proverbial outta me!
Quite a few of these movies can be found on YouTube, as well as many other not quite classics. I saw Day of the Triffids in a theater when it first came out and it has been a favorite ever since.
Really a great list👌👌👌
I would love to see this become a series from this channel!
I really Like the movies that you selected, most of them are rent or buy movies.
I just have a hard time paying for a movie that I seen on tv in the sixties
