Not a single Bob Hope film? Not even Road to Morocco?

These are comedies by today standards but what about the old screwball comedies like the laugh out loud, "The egg and I" or "Ma and Pa Kettle?" Most comedy movies took you away from WW2 and not their biased opinions on it. Even movies that referenced the war were not focused on it. "Major and the Minor" or "Christmas in Connecticut" are both examples of a very funny movie during the time of war but not about the war. Many movies were also about the turn of the century such as, "Life with Father" or about the music scene such as "Ball of Fire." And while some movies may not stand the test of time their actors are so funny even if they never make anyone's lists they need to be watched from Danny Kay to Bob Hope. This was also the rise of animation mixed in live action with Gene Kelly in "Anchors Away" or Disney films like "Three Caballeros."

It's not fair for you to put so much of a spotlight on the romantic comedies without evening them out with more of the great classic films of the 30s that we all know and love and that still make us laugh

I would have The Miracle of Morgan:s Creek in the top ten instead of The Great Dictator. But I have no complaints about number one.

Mel Brooks did "To Be or Not to Be" true justice when he remade the film in the early 80s.
@spyboy1964 August 23, 2024 - 7:12 pm
How can you have so many Cary Grant films on this list yet not have Grant on your top 10 defining actors of the 1940's list?

The segment dealing with "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein" made it look like Lon Chaney Jr. played the Frankenstein monster, when in fact he played the Wolfman, a role he originated in the film "The Wolfman", which I believe was made in 1942 or '43; this character appeared in a series of films in which (as in "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein") he was paired with the Frankenstein monster and Count Dracula (in these movies, Dracula was played by different actors, whereas Bela Lugosi only appeared as the vampire count in 1931's "Dracula" as well as in the film with A & C).

thank you for including Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein! one of their best! i watch it every year on Halloween and it never fails to crack me up! The Great Dictator resonates now more than ever!

What's that country twang music playing in the background? What does that have to do with the 40's comedy? Fire the video editor!
