The worst Dpad ever,
@andymcfly August 18, 2024 - 8:28 am
The dpad has been like my least liked feature. It feels like the dpad from the first xbox 360 controllers. It's absolutely terrible for fighting games. Just get a dock and a Bluetooth controller.

Great points! - I agree about the D-pad - and do you think that Valve might have cost-optimized and degraded the D-pads on the 64 GB models - or on all models after the first "special" batch?

When I tried an early 512 GB Steam Deck the D-pad was much better than on my brand new 64 GB model! 😮 - on the new Steam Deck I can't really run in a rhombus form - but on the early model I can.

Woah slow down buddy Frame Counting I just caught da last part of this video, you actually might of fell of shilling a lil bit their buddy. With dat ballsy statement you got going on their. You said Steamdeck is da best for PC gaming. Despite knowing their are portable gaming PC monsters on da market. With better controls,better specs etc hmm!! I will check out your other vids to see if you have done comparison vids
@MuhammadAli-xw4yc August 18, 2024 - 8:28 am
Hi Frame Counting. I love your honesty. Majority of Steamdeck users are just shills, 99% of them that I have watched never mentioned about the controls being not dat good for fighting games. I could just tell from observation of da positioning. This video is 9/10. Scratch dat 10/10 because of your cool ass laugh. No homo but I truly believe dat laugh is naughty,cheeky and sort of like a hell yeah bitch valve I use a plug controller, because your controls suck. Valve knew their controls sucked dat why they put in da option for additional controllers, I just wants Steamdeck for Fightcade,M.U.G.E.N fighting games.

Just got my deck and yeah, the dpad is very stiff. Might be ok for 3d fighters but 2d ones that require qcf or half circle motions are out of the question

Helpful video. The way DOA6 is acting is really odd, especially when you have it set at 1080p. I think it must be where the gpu and cpu are competing on the apu chip, and the gpu is winning. The apparent lag once you’ve optimised the settings isn’t great though, be interesting to compare that to how the PC version runs on a more powerful system. (Also a 120hz screen would mean truly awful battery life, so not an option).

You can tell the Deck was designed for "modern" gaming, the analog sticks and triggers are fantastic but the dpad and buttons are treated like "options" which they usually are for FPS and AAA open world stuff

I glued a dpad topper (made for Switch) on the Deck dpad, and it's a lot more comfortable for 2d fighters, shmups, and arcadey retro gaming
@sasukedavid9248 August 18, 2024 - 8:28 am
Does the input lag increase a lot when you connect pad ps4 or it's like the same?
@Dhdgcvnnnfx August 18, 2024 - 8:28 am
Love your reviews
@guillermo9171 August 18, 2024 - 8:28 am
I wouldn't discard the analog stick for fighting games. Steam has a setting that maps it like a d-pad with haptic feedback where it feels almost as if it had microswitches.
@superpotato657 August 18, 2024 - 8:28 am
8:42 i wonder what controller that is
@Hijynx87 August 18, 2024 - 8:28 am
Put some stick caps on the sticks.
@glovedcop69 August 18, 2024 - 8:28 am
what settings did you use for Dead or Alive. mine keeps stuttering and has frame drops
@DevinHerron August 18, 2024 - 8:28 am
My experience with the ergonomics has been completely different, but it appears that you're holding the deck much lower than how I naturally hold it. I attempted to hold the Steam Deck like you do in this video, and found it to be almost unusable, with the same issues you brought up. But moving my hands up a bit, and the D-pad and face buttons are positioned perfectly, the shoulder bumpers are easy to press, and the back buttons are easy to press, since I naturally press on the inner part of the button. Reaching the trackpads requires lifting my palms a bit, but it's still comfortable to use. Honestly, I've been impressed with the ergonomics of the Deck, and I don't even notice the weight.

I plan on getting an add on grip like I did for my switch. I knew the controller would have problems but I love the option to play high end portable games.
@harrysvu August 18, 2024 - 8:28 am
Have you tried playing modded Skyrim on this? Curious to know how it performs
@SCORP1ONF1RE August 18, 2024 - 8:28 am
I use the trackpad as D-pad. I disabled UP, and put it on right bumper. (It works kind of like a hitbox controller / d-pad, only better). Circular motions are an absolute breeze, and I never accidentally hit jump. Never. Doing dragon punches and supers on steam deck is so easy, it's criminal.
@FS-zt6tm August 18, 2024 - 8:28 am
I have the same issues. The D-pad sucks on the steam deck for fighting games. Too mushy and the placement is awkward. I can't do basic fireballs and dragon punches facing left consistently. I wish it had a d-pad like the ps vita
@AtomLabX August 18, 2024 - 8:28 am
Amazing!!!
very good video!
Excited to see what your thoughts are!
As a person who love Fighting games in general!
@redscorpion9325 August 18, 2024 - 8:28 am
On Portable Mode,I wouldn’t bother because it’s uncomfortable to play fighting Games because Steam Deck is too Big but on Desktop mode connected to Tv I make sure Display is 60hz and I connect Xbox or Playstation Controller and also make sure Tv is set to Game Mode to avoid lag
@lawdog72562 August 18, 2024 - 8:28 am
Wait……so you complained about the use and placement of the directional pad, ignoring the perfectly placed analog stick, but plug in a controller with no directional pad and use the analog stick on the controller saying it’s the best way to play? Just trying to see the logic in that.
@LouzWate August 18, 2024 - 8:28 am
The second you showed me SFV @60fps... Sold! time to learn fighting games with a controller and not a fightstick. Thanks for sharing!

Elmer fudd in the flesh
@Cyko.. August 18, 2024 - 8:28 am
Are you related to Elmer Fudd by any chance?
@Ken-zg3ze August 18, 2024 - 8:28 am
When did you reserve yours? Great review. Kind of talked me out of it though with the bad controls. I think I'm better off buying a small gaming laptop. Plus, I reserved in March so I wouldn't get mine until deep next year. These portable handhelds are going to be awesome in a few years.

Every win game works on linux with proton
@minhha8981 August 18, 2024 - 8:28 am
Personally, I will get a dock for the deck and launch it on TV and play fighting game through a third party controller.
@allhandsonsteamdeck1440 August 18, 2024 - 8:28 am
IF THE STEAM DECK IS SO HEAVY TO YOU AS YOU SAY YOU NEED TO PUT THE VIDEO GAMES DOWN AND PICK UP SOME WEIGHTS BUDDY AND EAT SOME SPINACH
