Quick-draw world champion Nicole “Fastdraw” Franks rates 11 gunslinging scenes from movies and TV shows for realism.
Franks has over 50 quick-draw world records and 12 world championships. In the sport of fast draw, competitors attempt to be the quickest to shoot a target. They use wax bullets or black powder blanks to hit targets at various distances and of various sizes.
Franks rates the realism of quick-draw scenes in films such as “Django Unchained” (2012), “The Good the Bad and the Ugly” (1966), and “Westworld” (2016). She breaks down some of the differences between modern quick draws with semiautomatic guns, like in “Collateral” (2004) and “John Wick” (2014).
She analyzes classic Western movies like “A Fistful of Dollars” (1964), “Tombstone” (1993), “Trinity Is Still My Name” (1971), and “The Magnificent Seven” (1960), discussing the different styles of guns, gun holsters, and stances. She even takes a look at some futurist quick draws, like those shown in “The Mandalorian” (2020) and “Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back” (1980).

Shitty quality video
Cruise's shooting in the move is what we call in the USPSA and IDPA shooting competition as shooting from retention. Simply drawing from the holster and rotating and firing. Very fast when you are this close. I have shoot stages that were setup as this scene. Very fun, but takes practice to shoot well from retention. John Wick uses CAR, or Center Axis Relock. It's a method of Close Quarters Combat (CQC) shooting that claims to bolster weapon retention and speed of target transition in extreme close quarters.
Foolish rating on West world. The difference between shooting at a target and being in a gun fight is noght and day. Your adrenaline is pumping through the roof and you loose fine hand eye coordination. It was fantastic acting.
Ohh my god, lady it's a movie you know it's not real right.?
What about «Leathal Weapon»? Gibson have some visual moves, shooting lateraly sometimes.
Such nuance to hoesters. Who knew there was so much nuance in hoesters!?
I feel like her Wins & Titles are equal to the ppl who bench press with a huge arch in they're back so they only have to get it off the rack & lift it about a couple inches because it's cheating tbh leaning that far backk while already holding your gun is unfair, I feel like a slight lean backk is necessary but the legs should be locked straight & you should only be able to fire with the opposite hand your holding the gun with
Does she kill people
I like how that gunbelt drapes off her childbearing, hips🧐👍🏽
So, a well trained and skilled slinger sharpshooting those who aren’t.
You don't draw your weapon like they did in the wild west. They did not have their holster tilted back, hand on the gun ready to draw. Doc Holliday was known to be one of the fastest guns in the west. He drew from his hand at his side and he won every duel he was in. Just like competitive shooting today they had very specific rules in the wild west. Hands away from your pistols, whenever both parties were ready with hand away from pistol they drew at the same time. No countdown none of that. The looked for cues in their opponent and the outdrew and or out aimed them. My great grandfather was a teenage boy during the wild west. To clarify my Great grandfather was born in 1867, My grandfather was born in 1912, My mother was born in 1952 and me in 1984. I never got to meet my Great grandfather as he died in 1960, but my grandfather was into the wild west quite a bit cause my great grandfather was. My grandfather hated modern day competition speed shooting. He would say things like "doc holliday would roll over in his grave if he saw how bad they cheated", because speed shooting today they have their holster tilted way back hand on the gun and don't have to move that pistol very far to fire it. The wild west was the birth of speed shooting a revolver and it was nothing like you see today. The main difference was that these boys in the wild west hand their hands to the sides. There are still people today that can shoot so fast using original wild west shooting methods. It's amazing
No one pulls faster than Lucky Luke!
The first time I saw one of these "fast draw experts" was over 50 years ago. I laughed out loud. More than half a century later, I'm still laughing. Shooting wax bullets at can't-possibly-miss distances is about as "expert" as claiming to be a professional chef who only cooks with an Easy-Bake Oven and plastic food.
her leaning back was all i needed to know she not qualified to speak
I think its important to note that John Wick was more concerned with accuracy because of how many targets were in front of him, where as Tom Cruise in Collateral was going purely for speed on two point blank targets.
Lol my previous question is for shootist illiterates. Why does it matter. She shoots better than you and I (disclaimer allowed).
She was world champ how many times out of how many times?
Yooooo shes beautiful 😍 🤩 👌🏽
No offense intended but the way they draw with their leg all out like that just looks stupid idc if it makes you faster just looks weird and cheap
Clint eastwood was also one of the only actors that didn't blink when a gun fired.
2:47 I love this movie, but the one thing I hated about it was that Django's holster is so damn high on his waist. Dr. Scholtz should have known better…. Lol. But really, the choreographer should've known better and brought that holster down further. The butt of the pistol should be almost at hand height.
It’s amazing that all of the experts they find for all their videos are never unattractive lol
She is a badass!!!
Woman disregard
The Westworld clip is accurate because he wasn't supposed to be a great shooter, he was playing a tourist. In some scenes, the robots are shown to be intentionally slow so the guest can win.
what a dumb thing to be good at.
Yeah but that's doc Holliday and he's not going to shoot his arm off
I can't get past her saying hoester instead of holster
Jamie Foxx is shoot down, but his bigger problem was his eyes were closed!
I liked all your explanations and ratings. But the amount of times you had your finger on your trigger during this made me cringe.
On the Han Solo scene, the reason he puts the gun so far forward with the aid of the twist of his body is to put the weapon closer to the target hence shortening the distance that The projectile has to travel In hopes of getting better accuracy .The closer you are to the target the less likely you will miss That is the reasoning behind that. Also, the further a Projectile travels it loses its lethalness. I’m not saying that it’s the right thing to do , I’m just saying why he did it.
Sweet gun and holster.
Damn shes purdy 😜🫶
Bob Munden used to shoot like that
Real challenge: Ask her to rate Steven Seagal's shooting in his movies.
She can sling my gun anyway heyoooo😂
Doc holiday is just that damn good. That's a baaaad maaaannn
Ok, she’s competes as a quick-draw…but come on, she’s never been in a real gunfight, lol…
now I'm all for sportsmen and women honing a craft but it does look a little silly if not practical but when you got your hips all thrusting towards the target and your back almost vertical id be scared in the 1900s now a days id throw some 556 from quite the distance if you in range and seen your making mistakes long gone are the days of imma calling you out
hey hey lady don't talk ill about my boy Terence Hill
I'm kind of amazed that the one in A Fist Full Of Dollars was actually pretty realistic lol
Shooting with your hand up is dangerous? But shooting an inch of your hip isn't lol
Good job
i was waitng for buster scruggs what a letdown
Lol 😆 big difference between sports shooting kids and its my life on the line shoot. Those two thing are no where near similar but I respect her opinion.
LOL… if theres anything FAKE
its fast draw competition
compared to life-or-death
What revolver do you use
didnt she draw the same way Doc did in the movie right as she says "he could have done it better"???
Tell Gary Plauche that shooting under your arm while turned sideways is unrealistic….. Just don't stand by payphones when doing it. Or mess with his kid.
